Eight-time PGA Tour winner Billy Horschel will not be featuring at the BMW PGA Championship. For the first time since 2019, the two-time champion must choose between defending his legacy and fighting for his tour card.
Horschel went through a lacklustre season on the American circuit. To solidify his position, he needs to feature at the Fall Series in place of the DP World Tour event.
“Unfortunately, due to my not-so-solid play on the PGA Tour this year, I’m going to have to skip the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth,” Horschel said on X. “I’m devastated. I’m upset. It’s a decision that was really tough to make.”

Horschel came into this season on the back of an injury-driven 2025 season. It led to an appalling campaign, with his best result, a T12, coming at the Wyndham Championship.
Other than that, Horschel could only manage three other top-25 finishes, notably at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. He missed 10 cuts throughout the season and is placed 100th on the FedEx Cup rankings.
As a result, the 39-year-old will now have to fight for his playing rights on the PGA Tour Fall Series.
"I'm truly proud and honored to call myself a two-time champion of the event and I'm going to miss everyone over there this year,” Horschel added in his X post. “So I'm wishing everyone a great event this year."
Horschel must finish top-100 in FedEx Cup rankings to retain tour status. Fall Series results will determine his 2027 eligibility.
The 2021 and 2024 BMW PGA Championship winner will have to miss out on playing at Wentworth.
Despite that, the 2026 BMW PGA Championship will feature a strong field.

The BMW PGA Championship always presents a fantastic week of golf and is part of the DP World Tour’s Rolex Series.
From September 17th to 20th, a strong field will tee off at Wentworth.
This time around, the field will be led by world No. 2 Rory McIlroy, who is never short of commitment towards the European Tour.
The field also includes other multiple major winners and European Tour stalwarts.
Patrick Reed, Matt Fitzpatrick, Tyrrell Hatton, Robert MacIntyre, Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose, Shane Lowry, Ludvig Aberg, Viktor Hovland and Brooks Koepka are in the field, as mentioned on the DP World Tour's official website.
Two-time major winner Jon Rahm, recently linked to a PGA Tour return, was added to the field this week.
