Women’s Golf Takes Major Step Forward as LPGA Announces $3.2M Shanghai Event

The Buick LPGA Shanghai is raising the stakes with a record-setting $3.2 million purse this October. The tournament will also move to the prestigious Sheshan Golf Club for the first time.

With the surge in the total purse, the Buick LPGA Shanghai became China’s highest-prize international women’s golf tournament. The tournament's international model serves as a vital platform for China's golf growth.

“For years, the Buick LPGA Shanghai has adhered to an international vision and high organizational standards, providing a stable and professional platform for Sino-foreign golf exchange,” said Mr. Wei Qingfeng, Secretary-General of the China Golf Association.

Wei added that the China Golf Association will ensure a highly structured and administered event that will provide Chinese players with “invaluable opportunities.”

The event has become a vital part of Asia’s women’s golf calendar as it is the season-opening event for the LPGA Asia Fall Swing. Last year, it achieved a major upgrade in status, becoming a “Hallmark Event.”

This record purse cements the event's flagship status on the LPGA schedule and underscores Buick's commitment to local golf development.

Buick has been involved with the progress of Chinese golf since 2005.

From player sponsorships to youth development, and from creating a comprehensive golf ecosystem to hosting professional events, Buick has heavily promoted golf culture.

As the Buick LPGA Shanghai shifts to the Sheshan Golf Club, the standards of an international golf event will likely be met at the prestigious venue.

Buick LPGA Shanghai For The First Time At Sheshan Golf Club

The Buick LPGA Shanghai event will take place from October 15 to 18 this year at the Sheshan Golf Club.

The venue is considered one of the best courses in China and has often been the site of international tournaments.

“From Sheshan’s inception, we aspired to create a world-class tournament venue. After hosting fourteen international premier events, we have accumulated mature operational experience," said Ms. Crystal Zhang, Vice President of Sheshan Golf Club.

Besides taking up the role of hosting the event, the Sheshan Golf Club also became a member of the tournament committee.

Zhang further stated that the dual responsibility will lead them to have a greater role in the planning of the event and also to deploy better-quality resources for the advancement of the event.

Through its facilities, challenging conditions, and top-tier support staff, the venue has consistently created ideal conditions for world-class events.
