"Won't Be Allowed Out of Locker Room": Jason Day's Augusta National-Themed Fit Doesn't Sit Well With Fans

Apr 4, 2026, 2:38 PM CUT

Jason Day walked into Masters week dressed like Augusta National itself, and the internet had some thoughts about it.

Malbon Golf posted the Australian's full "Birds of Georgia" ensemble on Instagram, featuring the Ridge Jacket and Magnolia Pant, a head-to-toe bird-print look inspired by the wildlife around the course.

The post spread fast, and the reactions came even faster. Some said the outfit "won't be allowed out of the locker room."

The outfit isn't the 38-year-old golfer's first fashion statement at Augusta. It's not even his most controversial. Back in 2024, officials stopped him during a round and asked him to remove a Malbon vest with large championship-style lettering.

In 2025, Augusta National reviewed his outfits ahead of time. This year, they approved the jacket but not the matching bird-print pants, asking him to wear a plain pair instead.

Day has been down this road enough times to know the drill.

The club's dress code gives officials wide discretion, with no strict written rules, just whatever the tournament committee "deems appropriate." That grey area is exactly where Day keeps finding himself.

Fans Are Divided and Not Quietly

The Malbon Instagram post didn't take long to light up. Some loved it. One fan kept it simple: "Major or not it just deserves our respect." Others weren't impressed.

Another fan compared the look to "the curtains from a 1970s lake cabin," a line that drew plenty of agreement in the replies.

Some went straight to the point: "He won't be allowed out of the locker room wearing this fit." Considering Augusta's record with Day's wardrobe, that comment made sense.

The hunting crowd got a nod too, with one user asking, "Are we golfing or hunting?"

Another user added a transatlantic perspective: "Oh no, they've gone too far, sorry, ridiculous. You'd never be allowed to wear that at a UK golf club, but they got what they wanted, a reaction and free publicity."

Jason Day comes into the week ranked No. 41 in the world and has made the cut in five of his seven PGA Tour starts this season. The outfit might get people talking, but he's here to compete and is taking the tournament seriously.
