One week ago, Wyndham Clark won the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills while a Long Island crowd rooted openly against him. This week at the Travelers Championship, the two-time major champion says the experience has been polar opposite.

Clark spoke ahead of the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut, on June 28, days after winning his second U.S. Open title.

"Honestly, just coming here the whole week, everyone's been polar opposite of last week," said Clark in a clip posted to X by journalist Chris McKee. "Everyone's been so nice. They're rooting for me, cheering for me. Just a lot of genuine pulling for me. So that's probably been the nicest thing is just the reprieve or the difference between last week."

At Shinnecock Hills, fans cheered his missed shots and heckled him throughout the final round. Police removed hecklers from the grounds during Sunday's play. 

After his round, Clark gave a reaction to the heckling to reporters, as published by NBC.

"New York didn't really like me. I love you guys. But you know, I get it. Some of it's self-deserved. I did some unfortunate things last year that I really regret, and I've been sorry multiple times, and I'm still sorry, so hopefully I can win you guys over eventually."

Clark damaged a locker room at Oakmont Country Club after missing the cut at the 2025 U.S. Open. He also threw his driver into a sponsor sign during the 2025 PGA Championship. Since then, he has apologized several times in public.

Meanwhile, the fans welcomed Clark much more warmly at the Travelers Championship.

"They were great. They were finally rooting for me instead of against me, so we like the Connecticut fans," he said to reporters after the round, according to The Mirror.

His recent performances also show that he could be heading for another strong tournament.

Wyndham Clark And His Record and Recent Form

Clark arrived at TPC River Highlands with two wins in his last four starts and no finish worse than a T-11 in that stretch.

He said he has been "playing amazing," as per Golfweek.com, and credited a putter switch for improved form on the greens. At Shinnecock Hills, Clark became the ninth wire-to-wire winner in U.S. Open history.

He joined Tiger Woods, Retief Goosen, Brooks Koepka, and Bryson DeChambeau as the only players to win multiple U.S. Opens since 2000.

Clark opened with a 2-under 68 at TPC River Highlands.

His only mistake was a triple bogey on the par-4 12th hole after his tee shot went out of bounds. He played the other 17 holes in 5-under par and finished five shots behind the leader.

From all around, Clark shot rounds of 68, 64, and 65 to reach 13-under-par through 54 holes at the Travelers Championship.
