Former World No. 1 Lee Westwood has responded to Golf Digest writer Joel Beall after he suggested professional golfer Jon Rahm's major championship form is tied to LIV Golf’s instability.
The criticism came despite Rahm arriving at Aronimink in excellent form, with multiple LIV Golf victories and a string of strong finishes this season.
On May 17, Beall wrote in an X post that it’s not a “coincidence” that Rahm started “playing well at a major” when his league’s future started to look bleak.
“You could’ve just stopped at “I don’t think”,” wrote Westwood, responding to Beall’s post.
The Former World No. 1 dismissed Beall’s claim, alongside others.
Rahm came into the major with two wins and three runner-up finishes and his performance at Aronimink reflects his recent consistency.
“This can’t be a real tweet,” responded another golf writer Matt Vincenzi.
Rahm has finished inside the top-20 in three of his last four major appearances, two of them being in the top-10. However, his performance at Augusta was disappointing, with him making the cut and finishing tied for 38th.
Last year, the 2023 Masters champion finished tied for 14th at Augusta. He improved upon his record at the two following majors with a T8 and T7 finish.
Rahm’s recent performances have only added more attention to the debate surrounding LIV Golf and its players heading into major championships.
How Has LIV Golf Turned Out For Rahm
Rahm joined LIV Golf at the end of 2023 and has become a formidable player in the league. He became the season-long Individual Champion for two consecutive seasons, in 2024 and 2025.
The two-time major winner is yet to finish outside of the top-10 in the league this season and is at the top of the Individual Rankings list.
Rahm has two wins on LIV Golf this season. His first victory came in Hong Kong and the second, at Mexico City. On top of that, he finished runner-up at three events, in Riyadh, Adelaide and South Africa.
LIV Golf's future might be uncertain at the moment but Rahm is looking forward to add to his majors' tally at the Aronimink this week.
