Gary Woodland delivered a decent T6 performance at the Charles Schwab Challenge, showcasing that his ability to play elite golf tournaments remains intact. Woodland posted scores of 65, 69, 69, and 67 across four rounds of play.

A masterful closing round secured a critical upswing right before the next major championship. The 42-year-old surged into a projected 23rd place in the FedExCup standings following a stellar 10-under par performance in Fort Worth.

Four successive rounds in the 60s at Colonial Country Club allowed him to create some momentum going into future tournaments.

"And that's, this is a marathon out here," Woodland remarked regarding his journey. "It's nice to be back in that range. I haven't been there in a long time."

An especially challenging final round, which included seven birdies and four bogeys, made Woodland prove his usual toughness. The American could not avoid erratic shots off the tee on the fairways, but still managed to regain his usual level of concentration.

The 2019 U.S. Open victor was proud of his performance at the Charles Schwab Challenge.

"To make the putts I did coming down the stretch, 15, 16, 17, 18, super proud of that," Woodland stated. "All in all, it was a good week."

This late-round composure helped erase the memory of a difficult start to his season before finding his rhythm back in the Lone Star State.

Rebounding From a Gritty Seasonal Start

This T6 finish, along with a couple of more top-20 finishes in the last five outings, marks a massive turnaround from his slow start to the year. Woodland heavily struggled early in the season, missing the weekend cut in four out of his first six tournament appearances.

"Obviously, the win was great, but to continue to build off that, this was a nice statement for me as well," Woodland explained regarding recent advancements.

That foundational breakthrough came with an emotional victory in Texas earlier this season. He shattered records by posting a 21-under 259 total to secure the Texas Children's Houston Open crown triumphantly.

His lucrative Texas victory of $1,782,000 and recent consistency boosted his seasonal earnings to an impressive $3,364,421. These crucial funds secured his financial standing as he focuses heavily on refining his game before the next major.

"We'll fix, we'll tidy up the ball striking a little bit," Woodland noted regarding his upcoming practice sessions. "But I'm impressed and I'm happy with the way my short game's trending."

With his short game firing, Woodland enters the upcoming major test with a completely revitalized outlook. Fans are eager to see if this momentum yields another historic trophy run at the U.S. Open.
