Jan 24, 2026, 4:30 PM CUT

Andrew Putnam posted a 72 in the first round of the 2026 American Express and a 60 in the second. His 12-under-par performance landed him at T18 on the leaderboard.

Putnam has resurfaced in the headlines with his performance in the tournament. But there are other things that many don’t know about Putnam.

A Look Into Andrew Putnam’s Life Before Professional Golf

Born on January 25, 1989, Putnam grew up in a golf-centric family in Tacoma, Washington. His older brother, Michael Putnam, also competed on the PGA Tour and has won three Korn Ferry Tour events. As a collegiate golfer, Putnam played in Southern California at Pepperdine University in Malibu.

Between 2007 and 2011, Putnam won the 2010 Pacific Coast Amateur Championship and became a three-time All-American. And in 2011, he turned professional, playing his first match on the eGolf Professional Tour the following year.

How Has Andrew Putnam Fared in His Career?

Putnam began his journey to the top with a win at the 2014 WNB Golf Classic. His next Korn Ferry Tour win came three years later at the Panama Claro Championship. But in 2015, he joined the PGA Tour.

On the PGA Tour, Andrew Putnam has made 149/242 cuts in the last decade. He secured 14 top-five finishes, one third-place finish, got the runner-up trophy four times, and also won one event (2018 Barracuda Championship). In the last season, he made only 16/28 cuts and ended up in the top-25 seven times.

His total earnings from the PGA Tour amount to a whopping $16,947,560. And the 36-year-old has made good use of that money.

Putnam Also Engages in Charitable Activities

Off the golf course, Putnam has partnered with College Golf Fellowship. It’s a faith-based organization that supports college golfers and coaches. And with his wife, Tawny, backing him up, Putnam has actively used his platform to promote and contribute to their work.

The greatest highlight came when he donated $750,000 after winning the 2018 MetLife MatchUp fan vote.

Weighing in on that, he said, "I not only fulfilled a dream by winning my first PGA Tour event at the Barracuda Championship, but I was able to donate $750,000 to a charity that is very dear to me by winning the MetLife MatchUp."

Putnam combines steady on-course performance with meaningful off-course involvement, shaping a multifaceted presence on tour. As he continues to compete, his experience, community engagement, and family life form the foundation of his career narrative.
