ANWA Winner Maria Jose Marin Reacts to Asterisk Talley’s Augusta Collapse With Class

Maria Jose Marin came back from behind to win the 2026 Augusta National Women's Amateur. As competitor Asterisk Talley suffered a shocking collapse after heading into the final with a one-shot lead, Marin's reamined humble.
"Definitely what happened to Asterisk, I do not wish it to any golfer. She was playing incredible golf," she said. Asterisk Talley carded a quadruple bogey seven at the infamous 12th hole.
The champion explained during the media session that Talley should take pride in herself since it was challenging to face such a tough situation. "Just keeping her head up because it's really, really hard to go through that," Marin remarked.
Meanwhile, Maria Jose Marin made history at the Augusta National Women's Amateur. She finished the tournament with a record-breaking 14-under par, winning by four strokes.

The 19-year-old also became the first Colombian and the first player from Latin America to win the Augusta National Women's Amateur title.
Maria Jose Marin on how everything fell into place
Marin's success at Augusta was similar to her performance the previous week, when she also shot a 4-under 68 to come out victorious.
She explained, "I do think it played into my favor not being in the last group, and just playing a little relaxed."
This win at Augusta marks an achievement in her golf career. The Arkansas Razorback has waited 10 months after securing the NCAA title to get redemption.
Marin also acknowledged that her father chose local firefighter Darren Woo to caddie as he knew the course much better. “I think it was one of the most beautiful decisions that he could have ever made because he was totally selfless,” she explained.
The Colombian golfer now focuses on her final year at Arkansas, using this victory to build confidence, as a possible future on the LPGA Tour awaits.
