Asterisk Talley Details Masters Meltdown on 12 as Augusta Punishes Misjudgment

Asterisk Talley's hopes of winning at Augusta National vanished at the famous 12th hole. The 17-year-old amateur was leading the tournament ahead of the final round before a disastrous quadruple bogey at Amen Corner cost her the title.
The series of errors began when a miscalculated club choice led to further mistakes inside the back bunker. "Just overshot the green. I actually kind of got lucky for not going in the bushes there, but didn't really have a lot in there," she explained.
"I tried to do my best to keep it from rolling in the water, it just didn't happen," Asterisk Talley said in the post-tournament interview. This was after her missed attempt with an eight iron, which ended up in the bunker due to hard sand on the green.
Then at the "Golden Bell" hole, her shot hit the trees due to the wind gusts and landed again in Rae's Creek. Trying to save the shot, she played the ball again, only to have the ball bounce off and end up in Rae's Creek once again.

Although her quadruple bogey resulted in a reduction from a 13-under to 9-under on one hole, she persevered. Talley played out the rest of her round, completing with 75 on the last day.
Asterisk Talley found support from golfing icons
Bryson DeChambeau approached her and shared his opinion on the course's difficulty. "He's been in my position before, and he knows how it feels, especially here," Talley revealed.
"He said you're a great player. It doesn't really matter," she added, and that matches what Annika Sorenstam told her. "She said you're the best player out here. Just don't let this get to your head," the 17-year-old explained.
Despite losing her lead and the tournament, Asterisk Talley still finished in the top five. The amateur golfer tied for fourth place, eight under par, six shots behind the winner, Maria Jose Marin.
Now, Talley is hoping to participate in an LPGA event in the near future. "This definitely does not define me today," she added.
