Patrick Reed is heading back to the PGA Tour.

The former Masters champion announced on X he is leaving LIV Golf after four years. This sets up a return for the 2027 season and signals a potential shift in golf's ongoing rivalry.

Reed made his announcement and wrote, “I am excited to announce that I am returning to the PGA TOUR as a past champion member for the 2027 season and am eligible to begin competing in PGA TOUR events later this year.”

Claiming to be “a traditionalist at heart,” Reed took a strong stance for his return. He believed he was “born to play on the PGA Tour,” backing it up as the place where he met his wife, Justine. 

But having won no major championship since 2022, he isn’t eligible to return under the Returning Member Program. Hence, he’d have to play in the 2027 season. Meanwhile, Reed will continue to play on the DP World Tour as an Honorary Lifetime Member. 

Grateful for the opportunities in the past, Reed stated, “I am moving forward in my career, and I look forward to competing on the PGA TOUR and DP World Tour. I can’t wait to get back out there and revisit some of the best places on earth.”

 He went on to thank everyone involved in the decision. Reed also extended thanks to Dustin Johnson, the 4Aces, and the Saudi-backed league for the recent experiences. And of course, he also thanked the fans around the globe for their constant support. 

But what about the PGA Tour pros? Are they happy with Reed’s decision? 

PGA Tour Professionals Welcome Patrick Reed

Eight-time PGA Tour winner Keegan Bradley shared his excitement regarding Reed’s return during the Farmers Insurance Open. Getting a “world-class player” with a major championship win was amazing for the 39-year-old. 

“I have a lot of faith in [Tour CEO] Brian Rolapp and the board that they are going to do the right thing. You need to capitalize when great players want to come back,” he continued. “I’m welcoming everyone who wants to come back. I don’t have any hard feelings towards them.”

Meanwhile, J.J. Spaun stated, “I think Patrick will be a good asset to this Tour, and I think it just speaks volumes to where the Tour’s headed. I think to add even more competition for us that have been here while they left, and adding Brooks [Koepka] and Patrick now, it’s just strengthening our Tour, which I think is great.”

Reed’s return signals a shift toward reconciliation and competition. But would he still have the same charismatic play upon his return in 2027?
