American golfer Brandt Snedeker defied a weather delay at the Charles Schwab Challenge by carding a rare shot. The opening round on May 28 faced a setback when severe weather rolled in, halting play. The PGA Tour Communications team announced a suspension of play at 4:15 p.m. CT.
Thankfully, the storm cleared after a two-hour, four-minute delay, allowing the players to return to the course. When play resumed at 6:19 p.m. CT, Snedeker made a hole-in-one on the 16th. The official announcement confirmed the moment.
"Brandt Snedeker aces the par-3 16th hole from 181 yards for his second hole-in-one in 473 PGA TOUR starts."
The seasoned veteran's first ace came during the 2011 Dell Technologies Championship at hole number 16 during the second round.
Furthermore, Snedeker's shot ended a long-standing drought on Colonial Country Club's iconic 16th hole. The official PGA X account also provided historical context for the iconic shot.
"It marks the first ace on No. 16 at the Charles Schwab Challenge since Brian Stuard in 2017."
In fact, a tweet confirming the veteran's shot attracted considerable attention within the golf fraternity. Fans celebrated the veteran's precision under tough, post-delay conditions as he conquered the 181-yard challenge.
Snedeker finished the first round tied for 83rd place, with an even-par score of 70. Additionally, apart from his amazing hole-in-one, Snedeker carded four over-par bogeys and two under-par birdies in the first 18 holes.
Ace Provides Solace Amid Brandt Snedeker’s Battle Against the Cut Line
Before this accomplishment at Colonial, Snedeker had experienced a frustrating season marked by inconsistency. He has struggled this season, missing the cut in five of his nine starts.
Notably, among those missed cuts were the tournaments, namely The American Express, Farmers Insurance Open, and Cognizant Classic.
In addition, he did not manage to qualify for the weekend rounds at both the Puerto Rico Open and the PGA Championship.
Before this week, the only positive development involved his victory in the ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic earlier this month. The win came with an amazing performance as the golfer shot 18-under 266.
However, other than that accomplishment, consistency proved difficult for the 45-year-old player. His recent success in this game is a confidence booster amid a roller-coaster season.
Although he accomplished the technically impressive task of acing a 181-yard shot, Snedeker is currently under threat of facing elimination before the weekend.
At present, he is occupying the 83rd spot on the leaderboard, which leaves little room for errors on Friday.
Having completed one round of play, Snedeker's hole-in-one keeps him alive in the tournament proceedings.
