The struggle Brooks Koepka went through with the putts at the Farmers Insurance Open was hard to watch. This led to him changing equipment.

During the weekend games at Torrey Pines, Koepka lost 6.19 strokes to the field, and nearly five and a half shots were lost on the greens on Saturday alone. But he’s not going to repeat the same thing at his next tournament. 

We’ve often seen the five-time major champion sporting a Scotty Cameron T10 Select Newport 2 Terylium Putter on the greens.

But coming to the 2026 WM Phoenix Open, he’ll reportedly follow the trend set by Scottie Scheffler and carry a TaylorMade Spider Mallet. 

The world number one switched to this particular putter back in 2024. And Scheffler used the same putter in all of his winning performances, including the Olympics, the Masters Tournament, THE PLAYERS Championship, and the TOUR Championship. 

Endorsing the putter, Scheffler once said, “I had tried a Spider putter with a different weighting in it. A weighting that was more similar to my blade, and I felt like I didn't get the full benefits of the Spider putter with that specific model. And so when it came time to test it again, I asked them for the full deal because I'm like, ‘I just want to give it the full test.’”

Well, the TaylorMade Spider Mallet has high stability (high MOI), that’s 50% more stable than a traditional putter. It has commendable twist resistance and great distance control, even if the hit lands away from the center. And that’s something Koepka would appreciate. 

Nevertheless, Koepka was already looking to solve his putting issues. 

Brooks Koepka Never Putted Well at Phoenix Open 

About a week ago, the 35-year-old opened up on fixing his putting troubles at the WM Phoenix Open. His words? “It can’t get worse, right?”

“Game feels good,” Brooks Koepka admitted. “I think putting is probably last in the field, but never really putted well here. Don't know the answer to it right now. I'll probably try to figure that out when I'm done with you guys. But I'm very happy with everything. Seems to be lining up, so I'm very pleased.”

Koepka hopes the Spider Mallet delivers the consistency he lacked at Torrey Pines. A sharper performance in Phoenix could signal a timely turnaround on the greens.
