Brooks Koepka Wasn’t in Violation of PGA Tour Protocols: Famous Golf Analyst Explains

Jan 6, 2026, 3:58 AM CUT

Wingo released the new episode of the Straight Facts Homie podcast, featuring Brandel Chamblee. While discussing Brooks Kopeka, Wingo said, "He’s going to want to play somewhere." However, Chamblee believes Koepka may catch a break if he comes back to the PGA Tour.

"He can't come back frictionless. Hecan't come back easy," said Chamblee, but he also believes that Koepka never violated Tour protocols when he left for LIV Golf.

Chamblee told Straight Facts Homie, “If you go back to when he left and went to LIV, he did not renew his PGA Tour membership. So, technically, he wasn’t in violation, the way I understand it of PGA Tour protocols.”

Players who left the PGA Tour to compete in unauthorized tournaments have been deemed ineligible to participate in PGA Tour-sanctioned events for about a year.

“This is the bet he made. He’s gonna have to sleep in it. He’s obviously qualified for the major championships. So, we can see him in those," said Chamblee. However, the analyst isn't the only one discussing what the future could hold for Brooks Koepka.

Even Rory McIlroy had a few words to say about Koepka’s return to the PGA Tour.

Rory McIlroy on Brooks Koepka

Just a couple of days ago, McIlroy sat down with The Palm Beach Post and claimed that the PGA Tour should bring Brooks Koepka back as soon as possible if he really wants to play for the tour. After all, the nine-time PGA Tour winner has done a lot for Golf, with his 21 professional wins, including five major wins.

Yet, McIlroy agreed with Brandel Chamblee that Koepka's return won't be easy. “It’s hard [because] you can’t treat one person differently than you treat others,” McIlroy said. The 2025 Masters winner explained that the PGA Tour may not be able to make the exception in Koepka's case, even if they wanted to.

"And as much as the Tour would like to treat Brooks differently, it sets a legal precedent, because of the lawsuits that have been going on and everything else behind the scenes," said McIlroy.

"He’s still exempt on Tour because of his major wins. That’s not the hurdle. The hurdle is how they have treated others that have tried to come back, serve suspensions, or whatever it is. That’s the difficult thing," added the golfer.

While it seems that multiple experts believe Brooks Koepka could return to the PGA Tour, no one is sure exactly what that way back will look like.
