Bryson DeChambeau Revisits 2023 Approach While Searching for Final Piece Before Masters

Bryson DeChambeau has an obsession with perfection. With the 2026 Masters just around the corner, the captain of Crushers GC is once again converting his golf bag into a high-stakes science experiment.
He is currently ranked 2nd in the LIV Golf individual standings behind Jon Rahm. Coming from a win in Singapore, he reaches South Africa with confidence peaking at the right moment.
"I have got a full bag of wedges I have been trying this week, different grinds, different weights, different shafts, different lengths, everything, kind of doing what I did back in '23," DeChambeau explained at the LIV Golf South Africa press conference.
This careful method is similar to his driver search in late 2023. At that time, he tested plenty of prototypes before settling on a specific model that is still in his bag today.

The American star has been reflecting on these thoughts during a pre-tournament presser at The Club at Steyn City. As he gears up for the first LIV Golf South Africa event, he is also keeping his sights on Augusta.
DeChambeau considers his driving, iron play, and putting to be elite. He sees a 5% improvement in wedge consistency as the key to winning a Green Jacket this April.
A Legacy of Intense Competition
DeChambeau said of his competition, "I want to beat the living crap out of all of us on my team here, and we all want the same." This intra-team rivalry motivates the Crushers to stay at the summit of the ranking.
However, such intense competition is offset by a strong respect for his colleagues. He said, "This game is so deeply rooted in compassion," in reference to his recent playoff battle against a wildcard opponent.
DeChambeau acknowledged that seeing his rival lose an important putt was unsettling, noting, "I personally do not want to win that way." He would rather outlast the competition with a putt in his favor.
DeChambeau is resolute to come into the major season as the best version of himself, both mentally and technically.
