Drive distance dominated major championship storylines in 2025. When Bryson DeChambeau and Rory McIlroy teed it up, the debate wasn’t about skill, but about whose power truly mattered most.

How Long Did Bryson DeChambeau Hit His Shots in the 2025 Majors?

At the 2025 Masters Tournament, DeChambeau went to the top of the list for longest drivers in the event, with an average of about 330.3 yards per drive. At the 2025 PGA Championship, his average was about 337.3 yards per drive. 

At The Open Championship, the driving power dipped a bit. DeChambeau averaged about 312 yards per drive.

However, DeChambeau’s strategy often came with trade-offs. Major courses penalized misses more severely, meaning his advantage depended heavily on controlling dispersion.

How Far Did Rory McIlroy Drive the Balls in the 2025 Majors?

But McIlroy was a small distance behind DeChambeau. During the 2025 Masters, McIlroy averaged roughly 329.4 yards off the tee, placing him second only to DeChambeau in driving length. At the PGA Championship, McIlroy again ranked near the top, with a driving average of around 324.5 yards.

At the U.S. Open, McIlroy had a driving average of 330.3 yards. And during The Open Championship last year, he averaged 322.2 yards. Although McIlroy had a shorter driving distance, he won the Masters Tournament in the 2025 season. Meanwhile, DeChambeau was left without a major win. 

Nevertheless, McIlroy was once pretty impressed by the distance DeChambeau’s drives cover.

Talking to reporters at Harbour Town, back in 2020, McIlroy said, "You could see he [DeChambeau] was getting a bit of speed and stuff, and he was hitting it a long way. But he hit a couple drives on Sunday that Harry [Diamond] and I just looked at each other, and we're like, holy s***, that was unbelievable."

The numbers favor DeChambeau, while the trophies favor McIlroy. But the golf world is left in awe of their driving force.
