Bryson DeChambeau is signaling a massive charge at the PGA Championship after a dominant practice display. His latest performance suggests DeChambeau, also known as the Scientist, has refined his approach for the week.
The LIV Golf star recently took to Aronimink to fine-tune his game before the season's second major. Filming a nine-hole practice round, DeChambeau carded a comfortable 1-under par to test his current form.
"I really like Aronimink," DeChambeau noted regarding the session as reported by Flushing It. "It's gonna be a great test of golf. I love the golf course. I feel good, I'm playing good."
This practice session was sparked by his desire to build on his history at the venue. He previously finished T19 here during the 2018 BMW Championship with a low round of 64.
The golfer is looking to translate this practice success into a trophy. He currently carries immense momentum from his recent performances on the LIV Golf professional circuit heading into this week.
DeChambeau opened the year with back-to-back LIV Golf wins in Singapore and South Africa, claiming both titles through playoffs. In doing so, he became the first player since Taylor Gooch in 2023 to win consecutive LIV events.
Even after arriving at Augusta following back-to-back LIV Golf wins, DeChambeau was unable to survive the cut. It makes the upcoming PGA Championship his first real chance to respond in a major championship setting.
Bryson DeChambeau Returns to Aronimink With Renewed Confidence
DeChambeau has shown his mettle at the PGA Championship. Within the last three seasons, he has demonstrated that he can withstand pressure, recording T4, 2nd, and T2 finishes at Oak Hill, Valhalla, and Quail Hollow, respectively.
As he returns to Aronimink after eight long years, he explained how he feels more prepared now than he did before.
“I played when it rained, but I want to see it in firm conditions though," he said. "I won two events and thought I was coming in hot (2018 BMW). I just don’t feel like I was in the best state with my game relative to wet conditions. But I’ve won a bunch now in wet conditions, and hopefully I know how to play it.”
Lately, DeChambeau has also been at the center of the narrative regarding the ongoing divide in professional golf. He has voiced several strong opinions on the evolving relationship between LIV Golf and the PGA Tour. This has led to speculations regarding DeChambeau returning to the PGA.
DeChambeau has been part of the LIV Golf scene since June 2022. As his contract is set to expire at the conclusion of the season, the door could open for a PGA Tour comeback in 2027. If he claims the title at Aronimink, will he return?
