LIV Golf has finally received the Official World Golf Rankings accreditation. But there’s a catch… Only the top 10 finishers will reportedly receive the OWGR points. And that has left even Bryson DeChambeau confused. 

Speaking to Mirror US Sports’ Sam Frost following a pro-am round, DeChambeau confessed, “I haven’t been able to digest it fully. I’ve seen just a potential or what they’re saying is like the breakdown of points, the top 10. I have no idea really what to think about it now. I’m just digesting it right, currently.” 

He was literally out on the course, trying to understand what the OWGR accreditation means for LIV Golf and how things are going to turn out in the near future. But does he think that prioritizing the top 10 finishers is fair? 

DeChambeau had just learned about the accreditation and was still processing things. He admitted, “I don’t know. I have no idea how they were going to handle it. I didn’t know if we were going to get points. So, at least we’re getting points, right?” 

LIV Golf officials shared DeChambeau’s confusion through a statement. Calling the OWGR’s accreditation “unprecedented,” they pointed out that under the rules, an 11th-place finish would be the same as a 57th-place finish. 

The statement read, “Limiting points to only the top 10 finishers disproportionately harms players who consistently perform at a high level but finish just outside that threshold, as well as emerging talent working to establish themselves on the world stage — precisely the players a fair and meritocratic ranking system is designed to recognize.”

But Trevor Immelman, the chairman of OWGR, had a response ready.

Immelman stated, “We fully recognised the need to rank the top men’s players in the world but at the same time had to find a way of doing so that was equitable to the thousands of other players competing on other tours that operate with established meritocratic pathways.”

“We believe we have found a solution that achieves these twin aims and enables the best-performing players at LIV Golf events to receive OWGR points.”

It took OWGR officials seven months of intense work to process LIV Golf’s application. Right now, they’re working with Scott O’Neil and his team to implement the approach with immediate effect for the 2026 season.
