Cameron Young's Honest Reaction to Costly Moment With Self-Called Penalty at Cadillac Championship

Cameron Young won the Cadillac Championship in spectacular style in 2026; however, the way to glory did not come without stress on his part and some exemplary behavior on the greens.

The talented golfer claimed his third title on the PGA TOUR at the championship in Miami by finishing 19-under par. However, his admission of committing a rules violation during the last round became the main talking point about his play on Sunday.

As Young prepared for his second shot from the fairway, he noticed his ball move forward slightly. He asked for an official ruling, leading to a self-assessed one-stroke penalty.

Addressing the incident afterward, Young admitted the penalty served as a "stark reminder" of the task at hand.

It also appeared that Young already faced some difficulty in Saturday’s play.

During the post-tournament presser following his victory, he revealed, “Nick came out and birdied 1 and 3, and I bogeyed No. 1, all of a sudden I went from feeling like I had a big lead to two shots.” Young was referring to Nick Taylor's performance during the tournament.

Such early mistakes required him to keep an aggressive pace in the competition. Indeed, he admitted that there was no reason to think about defending the lead, as other golfers could shoot very low scores.

Self-Imposed Pressure Fuels Victory for Cameron Young

The penalty sharpened Young's focus. He noted the experience forced him to play aggressively from the start.

In relation to his self-reported infraction, he stated, "Yes, two very unfortunate, but at the same time another really stark reminder of the task at hand."

He did not let it distract him.

His preference for the Blue Monster’s difficulty matched his approach to playing golf. Young indicated that, in general, he prefers a more difficult golf course than an easier one, as that matches his approach.

Despite the initial penalty, Young’s impressive scores of 64-67-70-68 showed how much he managed to withstand.

In fact, Young stated, "Winning is really hard. It's not, at no point did it feel easy, did it feel like the tournament was over."

Given the coming of the PGA Championship in just two weeks, Young can now use his momentum there as well.

Time will tell whether Young’s steadfastness in his principles and increasingly better play can help him win a major event. Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
