At 29, Charley Hull has three LPGA wins. However, her competitive edge can be traced back to when she was just a child. At just seven years old, she faced a 17-year-old boy on the course, and it was an encounter that shaped her fearless mindset.

Speaking with Kelly Cates on Sky Sports Golf, back in September 2025, Hull recalled the time when she defeated a teenager while being only seven years old. 

"I remember when I was like seven years old, I beat a 17-year-old boy," she said. "I think it might have been like the 15th or 16th hole that I beat him on," she told SkySports Golf.

"And he looked at me, swore at me, said something girls, and then got my ball and chucked it into the bushes. But I loved it. I thought it was really funny," said Charley Hull.

Competing against older boys played a major role in honing Hull's golfing skills. The boys' physical advantages pushed a young Charley Hull to improve her game, so she had to strive to better her game. 

And by the time she turned 17, Hull was already a pro.

January 1, 2013, marked the date when Hull made her professional debut on the Ladies European Tour. Her second professional game was at the 2013 Lalla Meryem Cup in Morocco, and she finished T2nd.

However, her major journey had already begun in 2012, with a T38 finish at the Chevron Championship and a missed cut at the Women’s British Open.

“I turned pro when I was 16,” Charley Hull told SkySports. “I played in a couple of majors when I was 14, 15. That was like my apprenticeship. And I thought, ‘Why would I want to wait until I’m 21 years old, waste four years in college, whilst I could be out there, 16 years old," added Hull.

Hull had already opted for homeschooling when she was 13. So, turning pro rather than competing at the college level was an even easier decision for the 29-year-old.
