Chris Gotterup Facts: The Quiet PGA Tour Figure Who Became a Key Piece of TGL

With two PGA Tour wins, Chris Gotterup has quickly risen in the Official World Golf Ranking (28), becoming one of the most compelling performers on the tour. Now, as the 26-year-old takes a step forward as a key contributor in the new TGL team format, let’s take a look at the journey that ensured this outcome.
Life Before Chris Gotterup Found Golf
Born on July 20, 1999, in Easton, Maryland, Gotterup was raised in Little Silver, New Jersey, by an athletic family. His father, Morten, was a golfer with a few New Jersey state titles. But before Gotterup found his way to golf, he used to play lacrosse for more than a decade.
And lacrosse can easily justify Gotterup’s powerful swings. But before entering the golf course as a player, he used to be a caddie at New Jersey’s Rumson Country Club. By his late teens, Gotterup had committed fully to golf, entering college already viewed as a high-upside prospect rather than a finished product.
Life Before Gotterup Turned Professional
Gotterup began his collegiate career at Rutgers University, where he quickly emerged as one of the most consistent players in the Big Ten. He earned Big Ten Player of the Year honors and recorded multiple tournament wins during his time there, establishing himself as one of the top amateurs in the country, as documented by Golf Monthly.

But for the 2021–22 season, he transferred to the University of Oklahoma. And that proved to be a pivotal move. In that single season, Gotterup won the Haskins Award, as well as the Jack Nicklaus Award. These recognitions put him up as one of the strongest collegiate golfers in the USA.
Following that campaign, Chris Gotterup turned professional (in 2022). But in 2025, we all witnessed him at his peak.
Chris Gotterup’s Breakthrough as a Professional Golfer
Gotterup’s professional run began with the Korn Ferry Tour. And after finishing 23rd on the points list in his first season, he earned a card on the PGA Tour in 2024. Within just five months of joining the tour, Gotterup claimed his first victory at the inaugural Myrtle Beach Classic.
The 2025 PGA Tour season marked the peak of Gotterup’s professional ascent. He secured a major career milestone by winning the Genesis Scottish Open, defeating a field that included Rory McIlroy. The victory earned him entry into The Open Championship, where he finished third.
Those results elevated his FedEx Cup standing to #10. Throughout his PGA Tour career, Chris Gotterup has made 42 out of 68 cuts and earned $6,601,780.
And now, Gotterup has impressed the fans with his stance at the Tomorrow Golf League. He replaced Justin Thomas in the Atlanta Drive GC. And he has already brought the team a victory over The Bay Club. But the upcoming season expects a lot more from Gotterup.
