Danny Lee has lost his starting spot on the Korean Golf Club roster just days before the league's highly anticipated event in South Korea, starting on May 28. This results in a total overhaul of the team dynamic.

The move comes as the team struggles at the bottom of the standings, having only gathered 21 points over the course of the season so far.

The Korean Golf Club announced the lineup change on X on Monday, stating, "ROSTER UPDATE: Heading into this week’s home event, Danny Lee has been assigned as a wild card for the remainder of the season."

Current KPGA Tour Genesis Points leader, Doyeob Mun, has come into his place to play at the Korea and Andalusia events.

The team expressed immense enthusiasm online while welcoming the new member, adding, "We are excited for Doyeob to join the KGC family and will officially welcome him on Tuesday afternoon."

The upcoming press conference ahead of LIV Golf Korea will serve as his formal introduction, giving fans a glimpse of the franchise's brand-new competitive direction.

Mun, an experienced South Korean professional golfer who turned pro in 2013, has been competing successfully on both the Asian Tour and the KPGA Tour.

In addition, his participation guarantees that all the members of the team in the Korean Golf Club will be South Koreans, hence strengthening their regional identity.

Tracking Past Precedents and Franchise Regulations

This isn’t the first time that LIV has made such a move, with Josele Ballester signing onto Fireballs GC during the middle of 2025 to substitute Luis Masaveu in a half-season agreement.

And for the same reason as well: a noticeable drop in his performance, as Lee never managed to break into the top-30 finish during the entire season, placing 55th in the individual rankings while pulling out of competition in Virginia.

In terms of ranking, captain Byeong Hun An is at number 37, Younghan Song is at number 44, and Minkyu Kim is at number 53, making Lee the lowest-ranked player in their squad.

However, Lee’s switch to wildcard status has no clear precedent for a veteran player of his tenure in the league, drawing criticism from fans.

The decision to replace Lee even caught the attention of rival teams as well. Dustin Johnson's 4Aces GC jokingly questioned the move on social media, posting, “Is that allowed?"

Will this risky strategy save their season or tear apart the entire team? We’ll find out soon enough in the fields of South Korea.
