Cameron Young overcame TPC Sawgrass at last. The 2026 PLAYERS Champion won a historic victory after a tense final round that tested his mental strength to the limit. That's why when he spoke at the press conference, Young acknowledged the difficulty of remaining calm and keeping self-composure.

Referring to the Ryder Cup, he said, "It definitely helps. It just provides you some kind of context for how you can perform and how you can think when you feel that way. Dealing with nerves is tricky. They make you -- your senses are kind of heightened. Typically I hit the ball a little farther, so it makes you capable of more, but if you kind of let them get in the way, obviously it can kind of be disastrous.

The American rookie was a standout at the 2025 Ryder Cup. While he lost to Rory McIlroy, Young beat the likes of Fitzpatrick and Ludvig Åberg, both of whom were hot on his tail at TPC Sawgrass. Both players challenged for the lead, but the American turned the tide. Just as he did back at Bethpage, he defeated the both of them.

Young had a challenging downwind shot on the iconic 17th hole. He had made a perfect shot with a 57-degree wedge, sand wedge, and even referred to the yardage as the best he could have gotten.

On the 18th tee, and in a deadlock, Young remained aggressive. In his head, he said, “I'm going to hit the best shot of my life right here,” and he made it hit the fairway after having difficulties earlier.

This breakthrough win marks a turning point, shaking off the unreasonable expectations that previously hindered his performance.

A Meaningful Family Celebration at Sawgrass

While the trophy represents the championship's top prize, the day's most significant moment was personal. However, the most significant moment of the day was celebrating with the family on the green. In contrast to his earlier win, this moment was extra special because his children and wife were there to celebrate with him.

Young's family was 2,500 miles away and missed his win at the Wyndham Championship last year.

It was special and provided a great sense of perspective to watch his children run onto the green. Young said, “ I think it is a nice bit of perspective. My kids are more interested in the drone than the trophy.”

With this win, Cameron Young overcame his troubling record of not finishing lower than 50 at the event!
