Si Woo Kim fell just short of PGA Tour history at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson on Sunday finishing runner-up behind Wyndham Clark.
The South Korean golfer maintained control of the fairways throughout the week while chasing the title. He finished just one birdie short of tying the PGA Tour record with 33 birdies.
Reflecting on his performance, Kim stated, "I played great, I think it's pretty much best played golf I've ever had, so yeah, was a little frustrated."
The disappointing outcome came after Kim entered the final round as the 54-hole solo leader at 21-under-par, holding a narrow advantage over the field.
American golfer Wyndham Clark posted an 11-under-par score of 60 in the final round for a total of 30-under-par 254 to win the tournament.
Kim, who ended up signing for a final-round 65, including seven birdies and one bogey, finished at 27-under-par 257 as the runner-up, three strokes behind Clark.
Chasing History in the Lone Star State
With the potential to make PGA Tour history when he nearly scored a 59 during the second round on Friday, he ended up bogeying the last hole to card an impressive 11-under-par 60 for his best round ever.
That remarkable round tied his career-best score and put him in position to chase the all-time 72-hole birdie record of 34, set by his compatriot Sungjae Im.
"I just trying to make birdie as many as birdie as possible, and then I think it's I play great this week," Kim commented regarding his aggressive strategy.
Unfortunately, with this runner-up finish, Kim missed out on becoming the first Korean player to win the CJ Cup since the tournament was founded in 2017.
Optimistic about his career trajectory, Kim concluded, "It's keep, I think it's kept knocking on doors, something's coming so I can feel it, so yeah, we'll see."
Kim next competes at the Memorial Tournament against a premier field.
