“Do You Hate Me Too?” Cameron Young Shares Funny Moment With Matt Fitzpatrick Amid Rowdy Players Crowd

The crowd at TPC Sawgrass kept chanting “U-S-A” to show their support for Cameron Young. The cheers were especially loud during the final stretch. And it was loud enough for Matt Fitzpatrick to ask an unusual question to Young.
“It’s certainly a positive,” Young told Golf Channel as he reflected on the crowd’s energy. “Anytime you can take some support from the fans out there, that’s great.”
“And it was to the point that Matt looked at me on 18 and said, 'Cam, do you hate me too?' And I said, ‘No, I think we’re friends. We’re on the same TGL team. We’re good.'”
The cheers reminded Young of the 2025 Ryder Cup, where fans kept cheering for the American team despite their 15-13 loss against Europe. Young certainly extracted a lot of positives from the event.
In the post-event interview at TPC Sawgrass, he said, “Anytime I’m reminded of that, it kind of takes me back to all the work we did to get there and the success that I feel like or the progress that I feel like I made during that tournament.”
With the crowd’s support, Young won the tournament with a score of 13-under 275. And that came after a T3 finish at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
However, things were slightly different for Fitzpatrick. He knew the fans would bring him jeers and boos. After all, he had already experienced a similar crowd energy back at the 2023 RBC Heritage while playing against Jordan Spieth. Yet, he found it “hilarious.”
Nevertheless, Young and Fitzpatrick felt nothing but camaraderie for each other.
How Comfortable Is Cameron Young With Matt Fitzpatrick?
“We've gotten to be around each other a decent bit through TGL, through our team, New York, and he is an excellent playing partner,” Young reflected on his camaraderie with Fitzpatrick. \
He deemed the Englishman a quick, polite, and kind teammate, with whom he could share some enjoyable talks. And a “very comfortable pairing” for Young.
“I think you probably saw it with both of our golf. We had every right to both be nervous and found ourselves in some tricky spots, but I feel like for the both of us I think it was a comfortable one.”
But would things have been different had the fans chosen a different favorite at THE PLAYERS Championship?
