President Donald Trump honored the Oklahoma State men's golf team. He greeted the athletes with a special gesture following their 4-1 victory over Virginia.
The 47th President of the United States hosted the Oklahoma State University men's golf team to honor their remarkable story and the championship achievements.
Before formally receiving the Cowboys, the POTUS, who is a huge fan of the sport, made a golf swing gesture to acknowledge their skills in winning in the sport's toughest conditions.
The occasion marked the 12th NCAA Division I Men's National Championship won by Oklahoma State as they outperformed Virginia 4-1 in a dominant display at Omni La Costa.
Trump met with seven different college teams that had previously won championships in their respective sports, expressing admiration for the hard work necessary to achieve such recognition.
Filip Fahlberg-Johnsson and Eric Lee played key roles in this championship, earning the crucial points that brought the title back to Stillwater.
Oklahoma State's long wait before winning is adding to thier trophy
When Eric Lee beat Josh Duangmanee 2 up to beat Virginia, he ended a nearly decade-long wait for Oklahoma State. With their 4-1 victory, the Cowboys won their first NCAA title in eight years.
In fact, Lee was the one who scored the winning shot in the semifinals. He shot a 6-foot par putt on the 19th hole to beat Mississippi on their way to the final.
"It's such a great feeling... I've gotten so close with these guys," said Lee, who is a sophomore who sent his freshman season in California.
Meanwhile, the Cowboys' coach, Alan Bratton, who won his second title in 12 seasons, is looking ahead already. "Fortunately, we have all these guys back, and we'll go to work on the next one starting tomorrow," he said after the win, as per ESPN.
Their year, Oklahoma closed out the season by winning the last five tournaments, and seven team titles in total.
