Dustin Johnson managed to make it into the weekend of the PGA Championship, thus preserving his astonishing streak of major appearances. At the same time, his weekend form was somewhat eclipsed by an unexpected discussion related to LIV Golf's future operational issues.

After securing his weekend spot, the 4Aces GC captain found himself addressing intense media rumors circulating about the breakaway circuit's existential stability. While sitting at T31, Johnson was bluntly asked where he would play if LIV Golf ceased to exist.

"You have to ask me when it comes to that. I have no f****** idea right now... I've got two more rounds to play. That is the only thing I'm thinking about it," Johnson candidly admitted.

The two-time major champion did not hold back about the absolute ambiguity clouding the circuit's horizon. Facing persistent questions about the league's upcoming schedule, he added, "I think your guess is as good as mine on what happens at the end of this year..."

Despite these massive operational uncertainties, the former world no. 1 clarified that he remains heavily invested in the franchise's overall success. Moreover, the golfer vigorously defended the quality of the games, admitting that the fields are quite competitive and interesting.

Johnson stressed once again that there are some truly great golfers in the LIV Golf roster. This commitment is fully consistent with the golfer's rich experience in these tournaments.

A Special Invitation Keeps Dustin Johnson's Major Milestone Intact 

The inclusion of Johnson among the key competitors at Aronimink was due to a highly expected special exemption issued to him by the PGA of America. This crucial exemption successfully extended his incredible, active streak to 69 consecutive major championship appearances.

The big-hitting American has endured a relatively modest start to his 2026 campaign, registering just one top-10 finish in eight starts. He previously received a special exemption into the 2025 edition, where he ultimately missed the cut.

In the past, Johnson had been dependent on automatic exemptions as he was a past winner of the 2016 U.S. Open and the 2020 Masters. As those traditional pathways begin to expire, his reliance on special invitations has grown significantly.

As the exemption expires in the coming time, the American's chances of qualifying for major events are going to be highly uncertain. Should his circuit fail to hold together for the year, Johnson’s ability to enter the tournament in the future would pose a serious challenge.
