Dustin Johnson is the new captain of LIV Golf's 4Aces, but he's already delegating a key responsibility.
Dustin Johnson has re-signed his contract with LIV Golf for three more years. In episode four, season two, of Dan on Golf, the famed analyst Dan Rappaport wondered about Johnson’s experience in recruiting golfers into his new team.
The 4Aces have recently recruited Thomas Detry. But recruiting doesn’t come easily to Johnson. The 41-year-old confessed, “I have a GM, I let him do that stuff. For me, that’s not really…”
“Obviously, I can, and if I can help in any way, like maybe talk to somebody, I’ll do that," Johnson told Rappaport. "But as far as, like, going to recruiting guys, I don’t. Or it’s just not something that I do.”

The captains of LIV Golf teams have to perform certain roles, like serving as team leaders during press announcements, publicly representing their respective teams, participating in roster decisions (but without mandate), and many more. But recruiting players is not formally defined. And Dustin Johnson has confirmed his stance on this.
However, as the new captain of 4Aces, he believes in a better future for his team and the Saudi-backed league.
Dustin Johnson Takes a Strong Stance as 4Aces’ New Captain
After signing a three-year extension and becoming the captain of 4Aces, Johnson stated, "I believe in this team, the direction we’re headed, and what we’re building together. I’m excited to keep it going."
But his opinion regarding the future of LIV Golf was also strong. Right now, LIV Golf is at a good spot, according to him. And that is only going to get better.
“Quality of players is getting better each year,” Johnson said at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic. “It’s already really good. I mean, it’s extremely hard to win out there with the quality of field. I think going to four rounds, I like it. I think it’s better for the better players, too.”
Meanwhile, Johnson is reshaping the captaincy on his own terms while backing LIV Golf’s competitive evolution. By delegating recruitment, he prioritizes performance, stability, and belief in the league’s long-term direction.
