23 years ago, Justin Rose received an email from a 14-year-old fan, asking for some advice. But what Rose did next changed the teenager’s life.
That young golfer recently shared a post on social media, where they highlighted an email from a 14-year-old kid in 2003, asking the golfer how to calm his nerves during tournaments. And Rose sent a short but honest reply.
He wrote, “Everyone gets nervous and I try to relax by listening to my breathing, which has a very calming effect. After that it is to pick a small target in the fairway and then trust my swing to get it there. Good luck.”
That kid was none other than the senior writer at Golf Digest, Luke Kerr-Dineen. Twenty-three years later, Rose remains a top player on tour, and Kerr-Dineen has built a career in golf journalism.
It's a gesture Kerr-Dineen still remembers. "Probably took him 2 mins to write. I still have the letter, still think about it. Class act, and blows my mind that I get to cover him, let alone that he’s still dominating tour events 23 years later."
But this isn't an isolated incident.
Justin Rose Inspired Children With a Win at Torrey Pines
Rose dominated with a two-under-par 70 and claimed a seven-shot victory at the 2026 Farmers Insurance Open. With the win, he shattered records as old as 71 years. But the highlight moment came when Golf on CBS shared a 17-second video following his big win.
The champion took off to meet and greet his young fans at the gallery. Rose shared high-fives with young fans in the gallery, creating a memorable moment. For these young fans, the interaction could be as inspiring as the one Kerr-Dineen had.
Additionally, Rose and his significant other, Kate, kick-started Project 250, which helped bring the sport to 250 children with a disability. Many of these children hadn’t even considered taking up golf before the couple helped them out.
