Jordan Spieth has now officially qualified for the upcoming U.S. Open field. The American golfer faced a looming qualification hurdle as his automatic ticket to the major championship finally ran out.
The Texan famously clinched the U.S. Open trophy back in 2015. However, that historic victory only granted him a 10-year winner's exemption, which officially expired last year. Revealing his entry route, golf insider Bob Harig posted on X.
"Jordan Spieth became exempt via the top 60 OWGR. He was 80th to start the year. His 10-year exemption for winning in 2015 expired last year."
This timely update was shared as the final qualification cutoff was locked in place today. To avoid going through challenging sectional qualifiers, Spieth managed to get to the 47th position in OWGR.
The season started badly for Jordan Spieth, who found himself way down in the world rankings, at 80th.
Thankfully, top-12 finishes at the Genesis Invitational, Arnold Palmer Invitational, and Valspar Championship within a single month propelled him into safety.
The qualification cutoff also brought good news for veteran Aussie golfer Adam Scott. He qualified in the top 60 OWGR category, along with Spieth, thus extending his historic record of playing majors to 100.
Jordan Spieth Aims to Secure His Major Future
Spieth goes into this event as a player determined to put an end to a very long slump. In his latest tournament, the PGA Championship, which was at Aronimink Golf Club, he managed to be in a tie for 18th position at 1-under par score.
The finish marked his 10th attempt at winning the elusive PGA title to complete the career Grand Slam. It also marked his second consecutive top-20 result in the season's majors after a T12 finish at Augusta earlier.
However, it has been quite a long time since he last tasted victory on the PGA Tour. His last official tournament victory came back at the 2022 RBC Heritage.
Speaking about his historical performance at the U.S. Open, it has not been that great either. His only top-20 finish in the tournament in his last five appearances was in 2021, a T19 tie.
His current season run has been a struggle as well. He only has four top-15 finishes in 13 starts and does not have a single top-10 finish so far.
Now safely in the field through his world ranking, Spieth can focus entirely on fine-tuning his game. Fans will be watching closely to see if he can recapture his major stage magic.
Do you think Jordan Spieth will finally manage to complete his career grand slam with a win at the U.S. Open this year? Let us know in the comments.

As Jordan Spieth Opens Up on His Eagerness to Win a Career Grand Slam, a Look Back at All His Tries at PGA ChampionshipAhead of the PGA Championship at Aronimink Golf Club, Jordan Spieth once again addressed the one missing piece in his major résumé. “It would be amazing, right, because it's just a very, very short list in history,” Spieth said while discussing the career Grand Slam. With the Masters, U.S. Open, and The Open already secured, the PGA Championship remains the tournament standing between him and golf history. Matthew Huang/Icon Sportswire/ImagoSpieth made his PGA Championship debut in 2013 during his rookie PGA Tour season. Just weeks after winning the John Deere Classic in a dramatic five-hole playoff and earning early attention on tour, he entered the major still adjusting to full-time professional golf. He missed the cut in his first attempt. Imago/Icon SportswireIn 2014, Spieth returned with more experience after competing in the Masters and contending at several PGA Tour events. He finished inside the top 20 at the PGA Championship and showed signs of handling major championship setups better. It became another step in his rise before his breakout 2015 season. ZUMA Press Wire/ImagoThe 2015 PGA Championship arrived after Spieth had already won the Masters and U.S. Open earlier that year. He entered the tournament with a chance to claim three majors in one season and briefly held the lead during the final round before finishing runner-up behind Jason Day. Christer Höglund /TT/ImagoSpieth entered the 2016 PGA Championship after struggling to recover from the Masters collapse earlier that year. He remained competitive through the week and finished inside the top 15, but he never seriously challenged for the title during the closing stretch as Jimmy Walker secured the championship. Brian Spurlock/Icon Sportswire/ImagoAfter winning The Open Championship in 2017, Spieth arrived at the PGA Championship needing only that title to complete the career Grand Slam at age 24. Expectations followed him throughout the week, but he finished outside contention and left still searching for the final major. ZUMA Press Wire/ImagoThe 2018 PGA Championship gave Spieth another chance to complete the Grand Slam. He stayed around the leaderboard early but could not sustain momentum across four rounds. Brooks Koepka eventually won the title, while Spieth’s wait for the PGA Championship continued into another season. Andrew Dieb/Icon Sportswire/ImagoSpieth produced one of his better PGA Championship finishes in 2019 at Bethpage Black. According to his PGA Tour season recap, he finished tied for third and led the field in Strokes Gained: Putting. It was also his first top-10 finish after an 18-event stretch without one. Peter Casey/Imagn Images/ImagoThe 2020 season became one of Spieth’s toughest stretches on the PGA Tour. He struggled with consistency and finished outside the FedExCup top 100. At the PGA Championship, he was unable to mount a challenge as Collin Morikawa claimed his first major title. Brian Spurlock/Icon Sportswire GOLF/ImagoSpieth revived his career in 2021 by winning the Valero Texas Open and recording several strong finishes, including a runner-up at The Open Championship. He entered the PGA Championship with renewed form but could not seriously contend for the title, keeping the Grand Slam conversation alive for another year. Matthew Huang/Icon Sportswire/ImagoThe 2022 PGA Championship came shortly after Spieth won the RBC Heritage for his 13th PGA Tour title. He arrived with momentum and another opportunity to complete the career Grand Slam. However, he failed to reach contention over the weekend and finished outside the leading positions. Icon Sportswire/ImagoSpieth’s 2022-23 PGA Tour season included seven top-10 finishes and another appearance at the Ryder Cup. At the PGA Championship, he once again entered with attention around the Grand Slam possibility, but the tournament ended without a serious run at the title. David Rosenblum/Icon Sportswire/ImagoBy 2024, Spieth was still trying to regain consistent form after multiple injury and performance struggles. He recorded three top-10 finishes during the season but could not add a PGA Championship victory. The tournament remained the only major absent from his résumé. Brenton Tse/ZUMA Press Wire/ImagoEven without another major victory, discussion around Spieth and the career Grand Slam continued into 2025 because of his age and past success in majors. Every PGA Championship appearance brought renewed focus on whether he could join the select list of players who completed all four majors. Brian Spurlock/Icon Sportswire/ImagoMore than a decade after his first PGA Championship appearance, Jordan Spieth continues to return with the same opportunity in front of him. He has won 13 PGA Tour titles, three major championships, and played key roles in multiple Ryder Cups, but the PGA Championship still separates him from the career Grand Slam.
