How much richer Viktor Hovland got after beating Scottie Scheffler at the Travelers: PGA Tour earnings

Viktor Hovland won the Travelers Championship and secured a top prize of $3.6M. He earned this by defeating Scottie Scheffler in a sudden-death playoff after they both finished tied at 21-under par.

Scheffler took home $2.16 million for his runner-up finish.

Now, the Travelers win catapulted him all the way up to 20th in the FedExCup standings. The #12 Golfer now owns a total of $43,106,221 in his career earnings since his debut at the 2019 Travelers Championship, per the player profile on the PGA Tour's official site.

According to the player profile on the PGA Tour's official site, this was Hovland's eighth PGA Tour win. Plus, it was his first in 15 months.

Before that, his 2026 season had been quiet. He came into Travelers week ranked outside the top 50 in the FedExCup standings, and his lone bright spot was a solo third-place finish at the RBC Canadian Open, worth $676,200.

Outside of that, he'd missed the cut in his last two majors and managed only two top-10 finishes all year with $2,375,476 earnings.

He took 17 tour starts before he broke through at the 2020 Puerto Rico Open, becoming the first Norwegian ever to win on the PGA Tour. The check was a modest $540,000 by today's standards, but it opened the floodgates.

He won the Mayakoba Golf Classic in Mexico the same year to earn the $1.296 million winner's share. A year after that, he successfully defended the Mayakoba Title, by then renamed the World Wide Technology Championship, for another $1.296 million.

Then came 2022, a quieter year as Hovland didn't add a PGA Tour trophy that season. Nothing in his career, before or since, compares to what happened in 2023.

Hovland won three times that year, and each one was bigger than the last. In June, he won the Memorial Tournament, worth $3.6 million. In August, he won the BMW Championship, another $3.6 million. Then, the very next week, he won the Tour Championship to secure his first FedEx Cup, along with an $18 million bonus.

It was the single richest payday of his career.

Scheffler is still miles ahead of Hovland in career PGA Tour earnings

As good as Hovland's week was, it barely moved the needle in the bigger picture.

By the time he signed his scorecard after the Travelers runner-up finish, Scheffler's official career PGA Tour earnings had climbed to roughly $114.6 million, nearly $71.47 million more than Hovland has made in his entire seven-year career.

According to the PGA Tour official website, Scheffler is currently ranked third on the PGA Tour's all-time money list, trailing Rory McIlroy, who sits at $116.1 million, and Tiger Woods, the all-time leader at nearly $121 million.

He crossed the $100 million mark back in January after winning The American Express, becoming only the third player in Tour history to do it. And he's now closing the gap between himself and McIlroy for the No. 2 spot.

This season alone, Scheffler has earned more than $15.1 million in official money, the most of anyone on Tour, even though he's only won once on the Tour.
