Scottie Scheffler arrived at Muirfield Village intending to pull off a historic three-peat at The Memorial Tournament. His press conference there took an interesting turn, though, as the conversation moved away from his tournament ambitions to his hefty off-course responsibilities.

Scheffler, ranked number one in the world, is increasingly sought for guidance on the Player Advisory Council. Since professional golf is going through big changes, people want to know how he handles things behind the scenes, like the inner workings of golf's politics.

During the official Memorial Tournament press conference, he was asked about his core council issues. "I don't really feel like a politician," Scheffler said about his PGA Tour role.

Scottie Scheffler tees off on eight nine the final round of the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin on June 1, 2025.

The American star prefers a highly straightforward, reactive approach to player governance. He chooses to voice his perspective only when his peers or tournament officials specifically request guidance.

"Mine's more just I feel like when my opinion's needed, I'm happy to give it, and outside of that, I'm not really trying to solve any issues," he added.

Scheffler wants to keep his hands-off approach to managing every event detail, concentrating instead on performing well in tournaments. Managing both his time on the green and involvement in tour duties is a tricky balancing act that he seems to handle pretty smoothly.

Statistical Dominance at Jack's Place and 2026 Form

Scheffler avoids tour politics, allowing him to perform really well on the course. As the twice-defending champion, he's heading back to Ohio. In 2024, he won with an 8-under, and in 2025, he did even better with a 10-under for another win.

Both dominant victories at Muirfield Village secured him identical $4,000,000 winner's shares from the massive $20,000,000 purses. This week presents a rare mathematical opportunity to secure a lucrative and historic third consecutive title.

Scheffler's 2026 season so far mimics his past success here. Out of 11 events this year, he clinched The American Express with a 27-under. Plus, he's been close to winning others, like the Masters, RBC Heritage, and Cadillac Championship, finishing second.

He placed solo third at THE CJ Cup Byron Nelson with a 25-under. Yet, even with such stellar results, the perfectionist in him thinks he can still improve before playing Muirfield’s tough layout.

"I feel like I could be a little bit sharper, but overall I feel like I'm pleased with where my game is at," Scheffler admitted. He knows the treacherous layout of the Ohio, which rewards absolute precision and punishes uncommitted shots.

With how well he's played lately, odds-makers think he's the one most likely to win again. What do you think about whether Scheffler can pull off winning for the third year in a row? Let us know in the comments.
