"I Don't Think My Approach Would Change Whatsoever": Jon Rahm on LIV Golf's Team Plans

Jon Rahm does not wish to allow structural modifications to dictate his approach to the game. Indeed, the Legion XIII captain refuses to be affected by any rumors about the possibility of altering the format of LIV Golf tournaments.

Ahead of the upcoming LIV Golf Andalucía event, it was speculated that the organization may look to further expand the franchise element. The hypothesis is based on the belief that upcoming calendars may feature several events focused solely on team play.

When asked if he would welcome a format focused purely on team competition, Rahm rejected the idea that it would alter his performance. "Whether it happens or not, I don't think my approach would change whatsoever," Rahm stated.

The recent media conference held at Real Club Valderrama saw the spotlight being thrown onto how star golfers perceive the progress of the league. Rahm took this chance to emphasize that his approach to playing golf on the course is completely independent of the leaderboard structure.

"As far as that, I don't think it will change my mindset or the way I approach a tournament at all," Rahm explained. He believes the core objective of the sport remains identical regardless of the corporate setups.

The traditional baseline task for Rahm focused on shooting low scores to help his team win. No matter how the league shapes its schedule, his personal preparation and daily execution will look the same.

Shifting Focus To Course Demands and Leaderboard Dominance

In the 2026 season, this tough approach has paid huge dividends for Rahm. At the moment, Rahm is in the lead position in the individual standings with 815.58 points scored in the first eight completed tournaments.

As Legion XIII captain, Rahm has bagged two individual championships this year, winning convincingly in both Hong Kong and Mexico City. He achieved impressive 23-under and 21-under par performances during his title-winning streaks.

"You still need to shoot or want to shoot the lowest possible, whether you're playing individually or as a team," Rahm concluded. That standard is critical at Valderrama, which he considers the hardest venue of the year.

The layout presents a brutal challenge, especially after Rahm missed the home victory last season by one shot behind Talor Gooch. He enters this week highly motivated to bounce back from a season-worst T16 finish in Korea.

"It's a course that challenges you on every single shot, and there is no rest," Rahm stated. The tight fairways require absolute precision, contrasting with his recent 4-under par effort on the Asian swing.

Five more tournaments remain before the season ends this year, and Rahm strives to keep the lead in the individual competition. The priority is to adjust to Valderrama’s winds and help his team win their second trophy.
