Wyndham Clark staged an incredible final-round charge, which included 9 birdies and an eagle at TPC Craig Ranch to capture his fourth career PGA Tour title. However, his historic victory path was almost derailed by an unexpected mid-round stumble.

His critical mistake happened on the tough ninth hole when he had a mud ball, which he tried his level best to salvage par, but ended up missing a critical birdie opportunity.

"Yeah, I was really bummed that I missed that putt simply because that mud ball was very difficult and then to pull off that really good shot," addressing that frustrating moment, Clark admitted in the post-match presser.

The missed putt threatened to shatter his rhythm completely, but a long walk to the tenth tee box allowed the former U.S. Open champion to settle his racing mind and completely reset.

"I said, all right, reset," Clark revealed about his critical mid-round mental strategy. "We're in a great spot, just shot 4-under, we can do the same thing on the back."

The player successfully did just that with a solid two-putt at the tenth hole, allowing him to launch a furious birdie barrage to overcome any resistance from behind him.

It turned out to be a very successful strategic move on the part of Clark, who scored a perfect 11-under 60 in the last round, thus securing his victory with the unbelievable total score of 30-under 254.

Staging a Resilient Weekend Comeback

Clark came back after he improved his game from failing to make the weekend cut at the PGA Championship just a few days ago.

As the former U.S. Open champion, Clark recovered quickly from such a failure, showing incredible calmness while competing against a very skillful field in a tight race for the prize.

Clark performed well yet again in the final round and showcased his skills as he did in his last 2024 triumph at Pebble Beach when he recorded an incredible 12-under 60.

The resilient superstar became the first player in PGA Tour history to win multiple tournaments with a closing 60, achieving the rare milestone under vastly different playing conditions.

"I look at Pebble, it was amazing, but that one, I was so close to shooting 59. At that golf course, that would have been just epic," Clark noted.

The 2023 U.S. Open champion closed with an 11-under effort Sunday, May 24, overtaking Si Woo Kim by three strokes and pulling ahead of defending champion Scottie Scheffler after the pair started the day even.

This impressive performance marks the next level in the development of Clark's career in light of his goal of making it into the U.S. Presidents Cup team.
