As the whole LIV 2.0 scene hangs by a thread, 50-year-old professional golfer Ian Poulter had some feelings to let off his chest.
“It would be a real shame if LIV 2.0 doesn’t happen,” he took to Instagram this Monday. “There are players who would love a strong global platform to play on… Some players will stay, some may go. As for me, I may stay or take some time off. I genuinely haven’t decided yet.”
This heartfelt admission came after the early end of the LIV campaign in Indianapolis on August 23, as they lost the financial support of the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF). Poulter didn’t mince his words, calling it “the doors (closing) on LIV Golf 1.0.”

Although the LIV CEO Scott O'Neil has reportedly signed a term sheet with a new investor, the future remains uncertain as no official announcement has hit the headlines. The Ryder Cup legend also expressed worry for the small businesses involved in the league.
“This final phase has been tough, and none of us knows exactly what comes next,” he wrote in the same post. “My thoughts are especially with the businesses and suppliers still owed money. Some are small businesses, and I sincerely hope those situations are dealt with properly and quickly.”
However, all of these probably came as no surprise to Poulter.
Ian Poulter Warned of Sept 1 Deadline Weeks Ago
During a mid-August appearance on Golf Life, host Jimmy Bullard asked Poulter if he believed LIV Golf will stretch beyond this season. The Englishman had quite the pessimistic but honest take.
“I think time might run out,” he stated. “There is a hard deadline, I think, of September 1st. There are four weeks to find $300 million. That is not a lot of time, considering people and contracts have got to be signed.”
As both Poulter and Lee Westwood have settled the DP World Tour fine, they’re eligible to return to membership in 2027. However, there are many who don’t quite have this option.
"There are some who have the opportunity to play DP World Tour and… PGA Tour golf,” he added to the same segment. “There are some that can't do either… It's up in the air.”
Now all eyes would be on how things play out for LIV 2.0, if that should come at all.
