It's time for the Dow Championship, bringing back the exciting atmosphere of team play. And it is precisely the funny interaction between the top pair of Megan Khang and Lexi Thompson ahead of the competition that initially grabs everyone's attention.
During their joint press conference, Khang brought the interview room to immediate laughter. She jokingly admitted to hitting her golf ball into "perfect Lexie range" during her recent appearances on tour.
When asked by Thompson what she meant, Khang cleverly pointed out their differences on the course. She wittily remarked, "I mean, Lexie's like no. 1 in fairways; I'm like 15 to 20 feet, and I'm, oh gosh, if Lexie were just putting for me, this would be great."
This amusing interaction happened while the Solheim Cup veterans talked about coming back to Michigan to play as a team. It seems that the duo enjoys playing together since their humor and personalities complement each other beautifully.
Khang even used this lighthearted team dynamic to cope with her recent individual struggles on the golf course. After a disappointing missed cut at the U.S. Women's Open last week, she relied on Thompson to pick her up.
Khang currently averages an impressive 1.75 putts per hole to carry the green. "Don't worry, Lexie is going to make all those for me next week," Khang recalled telling herself. While alternate shot formats can be stressful, Thompson's 72.22% Greens in Regulation clip makes the shorter approach shots much nicer.
Seeking Redemption at Midland Country Club
The deadly duo is set for redemption at Midland Country Club as the 2025 Dow Championship gets underway. Their quest for the coveted trophy saw them come tantalizingly close as they ended up competing for the championship in a nail-biting playoff.
Khang and Thompson ended the competition tied at 20-under par 260 after four challenging rounds of golf. However, they were ultimately beaten in the playoffs by the eventual champions, Jin Hee Im and Somi Lee.
Apart from their bid to reclaim lost glory through joint efforts, both have their personal demons to conquer. Thompson was stunned when she failed to qualify for the 2026 U.S. Women's Open in a massive upset.
That unexpected qualification failure broke a historic, nineteen-year streak of consecutive tournament appearances.
On the other hand, Khang also found herself underperforming in this grueling major at Riviera Country Club. She had performed poorly, ending up 5-over par and thus missing out on the weekend cut.
Both players plan to capitalize on their deep personal bond to overcome this disappointment. Their attention will be shifted towards winning the event under the cheers of Michigan fans.
They remain fully confident that their highly compatible games can produce another brilliant performance. The duo is entirely locked in to secure the trophy that narrowly eluded them last summer.
