"I'm Not Exactly in Favor": Jack Nicklaus Shows His Displeasure With PGA Tour's Schedule

Jack Nicklaus speaks to the media about the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club on Tuesday, June 2, 2026 in Dublin, Ohio.

Jack Nicklaus didn't mince words about the PGA Tour's schedule. He shared his thoughts on the cramped schedule during the golden jubilee of the Memorial Tournament. Muirfield Village witnessed the reflections from the tournament founder.

While addressing the media in Ohio on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, the 18-time major champion expressed genuine concern about how the tour structures its yearly calendar. The scheduling format has clearly become a point of contention for the tournament host.

"I don't want to comment on the TOUR's schedule because I'm not exactly in favor of what they're doing right now," Nicklaus confessed.

This honest comment came up during the pre-tournament press conference. Nicklaus wondered how justifiable it is to make players participate in such a hectic summer schedule.

Speaking at Muirfield Village, Nicklaus added, "I hate to see tournaments bunched too much together with too many big tournaments too close together. That's a problem, I think."

Amidst growing apprehensions with regard to workload, there is now restructuring in 2027 that makes sweeping changes to the official tour calendar.

The golf legend noticed that small tournaments are outmatched by adjacent Signature Events. The Cognizant Classic tournament in Florida served him as the perfect example.

The Restructured 2027 Florida Swing and Spring Lineup

The traditional Florida sequence will be adjusted to provide a more balanced schedule for high-profile tournaments.

The season starts with The American Express held from January 21 – 24, 2027. The leading golfers will have to compete in a set of West Coast tournaments before switching to a new East Coast schedule.

A shift occurs when the Cadillac Championship moves from May to March 4-7, 2027. This newly repositioned event stands out as a highly lucrative, $20 million Signature Event.

Following this is the Players Championship scheduled from March 11 – 14, 2027. This championship lies between the other two elite tournaments, providing a prolonged challenge for the competitors.

The Arnold Palmer Invitational moves to March 18-21, 2027. This traditional invitational tournament at Bay Hill is yet another $20 million Signature Event.

The following month sets the stage for the year's first major event, the Masters, which takes place from April 8-11, 2027. It requires the best performance from each of the competitors.

The Valspar Championship will be held from May 6-9, 2027. This tournament is strategically positioned just before the much-awaited Truist Championship.

Finally, the stretch concludes with the year's second major, the PGA Championship, from May 20-23, 2027. This compressed schedule exemplifies the congestion Nicklaus criticized.

Do you agree with Jack Nicklaus regarding the changes the PGA has made to the schedule? Let us know in the comments.
