Matt Fitzpatrick arrived at the 2026 Truist Championship at Quail Hollow prepared to discuss the unique dynamic shared with his brother Alex.

With both brothers now competing on the tour circuit, Matt has found himself in the unusual situation of playing against his brother, Alex Fitzpatrick, following their success stories.

"I kind of made the joke at Zurich a few years ago, he's the happy, bubbly one, I'm the miserable one," Matt admitted during his candid press conference.

The admission came after Matt described the emotional significance of his victory with Alex at the Zurich Classic in 2026, which marked a turning point in Alex's career.

Despite being known for his rigid work ethic, Matt admitted that his brother has a much more relaxed approach to his professional life, saying that he is a lot more "polite."

"I know where I'm going to be for every hour basically of the practice day. But then in terms of similarities, I mean it's hard to tell because I do feel like we are very different," Matt said.

Matt provides mentorship to Alex as the younger brother navigates the mounting pressure of his professional golf career.

Supporting Alex’s Historic TOUR Rise 

The mentorship will come in handy as Alex embarks on his first time on tour as a PGA Tour member, following his top-10 finish in his maiden PGA Tour competition in Miami.

While Matt admits it would be challenging to find any resemblance between the two brothers, he stated that Alex's game has improved significantly to compete at this level.

“The biggest change is his driving. Driving was probably always a weakness in the past, and it's become a strength. It's completely night and day from what it was,” Matt said.

Matt specifically praised the work Alex has done with coach Mike, remarking that his brother was "first off the tee" during recent statistical evaluations.

Despite both of them having different personalities, the brothers plan on playing practice rounds together to help Alex cope with the stress associated with the PGA Tour.

Matt is set to play at the Truist Championship from May 7 to May 10 in excellent form, aiming to secure his fourth win of the 2026 season.
