Inside LIV Golf’s ‘Lion’s Den’: South African Event’s Unique Setup Has Fans Buzzing

LIV Golf is borrowing from the boxing and MMA toolkit for South Africa. The 'Lion's Den' feature will have player walkouts for the 17th, and fans seem excited.
LIV Golf is all set to enter South Africa for its inaugural event at The Club at Steyn City on March 19, 2026.
This feature will allow the players to walk through an L-shaped tunnel designed in the fans’ stands to enter the 17th hole. Here, the players can choose their signature walk-out song.
Additionally, hole 17 has become the “epicenter of excitement” with fan games, live MCs and a DJ, and a dedicated hype team to keep the spirits high. As per reports, about 90,000 tickets have been sold for the week.
That number could go higher since children under 12 years can enter for free. "It's a dynamic mix of music, culture, and crowd energy that takes over as the sun goes down," reads the official report.
Fans Seem Excited About The Lion’s Den
Soon after, an insider shared visuals of The Lion’s Den on X, and fans expressed their excitement. And most of them seemed enticed by the dramatic looks of the 17th hole. One fan wrote, “All those grandstands… looks crazy.”
Meanwhile, another claimed, “Holy moly, this is gonna be epic.” Right now, LIV Golf Adelaide is the most popular event. This year, more than 115,000 fans witnessed the event as Anthony Kim claimed his first win in about 16 years.
However, fans hope that South Africa will be similar to Adelaide. “Looks great mate. I feel South Africa is going to put on a show similar to Adelaide. Is that the vibe on the ground?” Another fan wrote, “So good. Can’t wait. I hope it’s as big as Adelaide!!”
Phil Mickelson may also be helping drive part of that excitement. After missing out on the first four events of the year, Mickelson will make his season debut at LIV Golf South Africa.
Some fans even compared things with the Hong Kong crowd. A comment read, “I wouldn’t mind seeing an event 2 weeks in a row at the same venue. 1 week stroke. The next match play. If tie crowds turn up to support it. Better then going to HongKong where there is no crowd or atmosphere.”
So are you excited for LIV Golf’s debut in South Africa with The Lion’s Den?
