JM Eagle LA Championship Raises Prize Money by $1 Million, Becoming Highest Outside Majors and Season-Ending Events

The JM Eagle LA Championship tournament has brought an important change to the professional golf environment, redefining the stakes for the LPGA Tour's elite athletes.
The Chairman and CEO of JM Eagle, Walter Wang, made an official announcement about a monetary addition that makes the tournament one of the biggest financial events.
"I'd like to increase the purse by a million dollars. So this tournament, the purse will be $4.75 million," Wang explained in his live interview from the venue of the event.
The statement was made after talking about the $3.75 million initial purse of the tournament. The purse increase first happened in 2023, when the tournament purse was doubled from $1.5 to $3 million.
Then in 2024, that went to $3.75 million. However, Wang again decided to surprise the entire golf world by adding seven figures to the sum of prizes.
The reporter immediately described the action as "breaking news" and "breaking records," noting it is a delight to see such dedication to honoring the tour's great players.
The sum will make the tournament one of the richest events on the LPGA Tour schedule, second only to the major tournaments and the Tour Championship.
Green Secures Historic Payout at El Caballero
Hannah Green won after a closely contested sudden-death playoff, taking her third title in this championship in four years by outclassing Sei Young Kim and Jin Hee Im, all having completed their rounds at a 17-under par score of 271.
The record amount of money on offer saw Green walk away with a lucrative winner’s check worth $712,500 from a purse totaling $4.75 million. With a final round score of 4-under 68, she managed to overturn a six-shot deficit on the back nine and force a three-way playoff.
The high-risk nature of the game played at El Caballero Country Club was perfect grounds for Wang to invest in the competition, leading to an exciting conclusion to the tournament.
This historic win will go down in history as yet another milestone in Green’s career and a testament to the importance of investing more funds into the game.
Given the high stakes involved, the tournament became the most desirable place for the best golfers in the world to compete.
