Jon Rahm Makes Feelings Clear on the Noise Around LIV Golf’s Uncertain Future

It has been more than two years since Jon Rahm left the PGA Tour to join LIV Golf in December 2023. The second major of the season sees Rahm give a straight-up evaluation of the administrative disputes that have taken center stage at the top of the professional golf scene.

There have been speculations about the future of LIV Golf, which emerged after PIF decided to back off its funding of the league. Amid the league's uncertainty, Rahm made his stance on the administrative noise clear during his Tuesday, May 12, press conference.

"Out of the few talents I have in my life, fixing a business is not one of them," Rahm stated, emphasizing that he is the wrong person to handle complex sports negotiations.

After helping finance LIV Golf since its controversial launch in 2022, the Saudi Public Investment Fund is reportedly set to end its support after the 2026 season. This leaves the league's long-term future in doubt. Rahm was one of LIV’s marquee signings after departing the PGA Tour.

However, amidst uncertainty, the two-time major winner admitted he prefers to leave the intricate details to those specifically hired to manage the league's direction.

"So my job is to play golf, luckily," he said. "I'm decent at it. And that's what I can focus on. What I can focus on is the next shot.

Rahm expressed that he has maintained his focus by trusting leadership to handle the details. This mindset is crucial as he seeks to become the first Spaniard to win the PGA Championship and complete the Spanish Grand Slam.

Rahm said his contract with LIV Golf extends for several more years, during a news conference ahead of the LIV Golf tournament at Trump National Golf Club. He added that his prolonged conflict with the DP World Tour over unpaid fines has finally been settled.

Rahm now believes that dwelling on the evolving terms of the golf world is a distraction that serves no purpose for a player.

"If the terms change afterward, it's an afterthought, not a problem from the choice," he said.

Riding high after LIV Golf wins in Hong Kong and Mexico City, Rahm heads into the PGA Championship with confidence. Last year at Quail Hollow, the 31-year-old briefly held a share of the lead late on Sunday before settling for a T-8 finish.

Since joining LIV Golf, Rahm has posted three major top-10 finishes and finished T-38 at the 2026 Masters Tournament. Ranked No. 20 in the Official World Golf Ranking, he remains LIV’s highest-ranked player.

So, Rahm aims to leverage his incredible run in LIV this year to continue his momentum in the remaining majors of the season.
