Jon Rahm Sees One Clear Advantage That Could Define the Week in South Africa

Jon Rahm believes he's found the key to winning in South Africa. As LIV Golf debuts at The Club at Steyn City, Rahm's strategy hinges on one specific advantage offered by the course's unique high-altitude layout.

The captain of Legion XIII has identified a unique physical singularity on the South African course that is more favorable to the longer hitters than the rest of the competitors.

"There is quite a bit of a margin of error off the tee, so hitting it long is going to be an advantage," Rahm said about the estate's layout.

This observation was made during a pre-tournament press conference at The Club at Steyn City, where Rahm noted that local kikuyu grass and high altitude could affect scoring.

"Extremely wide fairways, tricky greens. Just the fact that we have Kuya here plays quite different. Right of the tee, you're not going to expect a lot of roll. You can probably be aggressive," he added.

Rahm pointed out that when the world's top players have no distance restrictions off the tee, there will be many birdies and low scores for spectators to enjoy.

Jon Rahm prefers a simple approach

When many competitors ponder too much over equipment in new environments, Rahm has a strict policy of minimum clubs and will not change any of the wedges or irons during the tournament week.

"I feel like thinking about having to change clubs is more complicated for me than having to adjust whatever I am going to do myself, technique-wise," Rahm said.

John revealed that even if he makes changes based on the course where he'll play, he only makes minor changes.

"The only change I have in the bag is either play five or two iron," said the 31-year-old, adding that he doesn't touch anything else in his bag.

As Rahm gets ready to compete in Midrand, he and the rest of the Legion XIII members are also fighting for a spot at Augusta. Do you think the gofer's approach will help?
