Justin Rose Skips Scottish Open for the First Time in Five Years Ahead of The Open

For the first time in five years, Justin Rose is skipping the Genesis Scottish Open, the event he has long used as his final tune‑up before The Open.
The tournament tees off July 9–12 at The Renaissance Club in North Berwick. It’s one of five Rolex Series events on the calendar and the last links test before the year’s final major at Royal Birkdale.
Organizers confirmed the full field on Friday evening, and the 45‑year‑old Englishman was a notable absentee.
Rose has relied on the Scottish Open as his prep week in recent years. But this time around, he has offered no explanation for pulling out, as per Golfmagic.

The decision is unusual for Rose, given the timing, but it also points towards something deeper.
He's skipping it two weeks before a return to Royal Birkdale, the course where his career effectively began.
It was the site of his 1998 breakout as a 17-year-old amateur when he holed a shot from distance on the 72nd hole and finished tied for fourth. It earned him the Silver Medal for low amateur.
It’s expected he wants to go straight back to the place that means the most to him rather than spending another week in tournament play.
Another reason might be his recent struggle with form.
Since switching to McLaren irons, Rose has managed just one top‑10 finish in 2026—a tie for 10th at the PGA Championship. It isn't ideal with just 11 days remaining before the last major of the season, though.
The Scottish Open field is still stacked without Justin Rose
The Renaissance Club hosts a loaded field, even without Rose.
This year's field includes 18 of the world's top 25. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, reigning Open champion Rory McIlroy, Wyndham Clark, Matt Fitzpatrick, Aaron Rai, Xander Schauffele, Brooks Koepka, Shane Lowry, and Justin Thomas are all in the field.
Defending champion Chris Gotterup returns as well.
McIlroy is coming in as the reigning Masters champion after winning Augusta in both 2025 and 2026, while Scheffler arrives after a tight playoff loss to Viktor Hovland at the Travelers Championship.
Wyndham Clark arrives after winning the 2026 U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills.
Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton are also back after finally settling their fine dispute with the DP World Tour. Both LIV Golf members are in the field because the event is co-sanctioned by both the PGA Tour and DP World Tour.
It'll be Rahm's first PGA Tour-run event since the 2023 Tour Championship and Hatton's first since the 2024 Sony Open.
