Justin Thomas is not one to conceal his emotions, especially when course conditions become intolerable.
The two-time major champion endured a tough outing and, unfortunately, missed the cut at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
After shooting back-to-back rounds of 79, Thomas told the media, "It does not really make sense to putt on these greens."
Thomas' early exit from the tournament was confirmed after two consecutive rounds of 7-over par at Bay Hill, which is not the most welcoming return from his first event back.
Instead of staying to endure some additional practice, Thomas stated plainly that he would be going home right away to recompose.
He believes the quality of the putting surfaces has declined to the point that practicing on them offers no additional competitive advantage for the upcoming Players Championship.
Seeking Redemption at TPC Sawgrass
Regarding the condition of the turf, Thomas said, "There is zero chance that they are going to be alive Sunday. They are so dead already."
He called his missed cut a blessing, saying, "That is one good thing about not playing here this weekend, because it is going to s***."
It is a given that the conditions at Bay Hill are tough, but Thomas seemed to feel that the setup was beyond the brutality of the conditions and was borderline unplayable.
He is seeking a better practice surface to prepare for his challenge at TPC Sawgrass next week.
Golf fans are split on his statement. Some appreciate his openness, while others counter that the example surface conditions for the entire field that week were no different.
