Ted Scott is a familiar face on the 18th green at Augusta, but his most important work happens far from any golf course. While caddying for the world's best golfer has brought him fame, Scott says his true calling is serving his community.

The veteran caddie, who has worked with two Masters champions, considers his professional success and status merely a means to an end. He is highly devoted to uplifting poor youth and engaging in dialogue with his poor neighbors in his hometown of Lafayette, Louisiana.

"It's like, let's help other people with the stuff that we've been given, with the blessings that I've received. Let's pass it on," Scott told Golf.com. He expressed these sentiments during a mid-January visit to several community ministries with which he is involved, along with his wife and children.

Scott claims that wealth is only temporary and must be used to bring immediate relief to people who are strapped with challenges but full of promise. Per the April 2nd report, he often tells his friends at the club, "I've never seen a U-Haul hooked up to a hearse."

Some of his philanthropic work includes his extensive involvement with Hope for Opelousas, a Christian development ministry that provides free after-school programs for kids. He met the organization's director, Loren Carriere, at a gym and immediately decided to "get behind" the cause.

To Scott, being a caddie is a profession, but being a servant is his calling. He looks for people from whom he can learn and people whom he can help.

A History of Mentorship and Shared Faith

Scott's mentorship tendencies were also evident before his partnership with Scheffler, particularly in his close association with former player Bubba Watson. The two were known for their shared Christian heritage, having won two Masters tournaments together while holding each other accountable for their behavior on the course.

After the end of the partnership in 2021, Scott initially focused on retiring from the Tour to concentrate fully on his local instruction and ministry. He was then called by Scottie, who had spent two weeks praying for guidance. Scott accepted the invitation, which led to an immediate and historic winning streak.

Scott's mentorship is not limited to people with similar backgrounds. He has also mentored Pastor D.K. Kelly, who was a gang member until a judge advised him to take up golf. Scott offered Kelly golf instruction and assisted in raising funds to convert an abandoned shop into a 12,000-square-foot place of worship.

Together, the two established the "Who’s Your Caddie?" retreat, which is an annual program designed to help men share their burdens and build their faith through the sport. This is a focus for Scott as he enters the 2026 golf season alongside the World No. 1 golfer.
