Lexi Thompson Shoots Bogey Free at Chevron Championship, Explains Round 3 Conditions

Apr 26, 2026, 12:30 PM CUT

Lexi Thompson surged up the leaderboard at The Chevron Championship on Saturday, climbing to T10 going into round 4 on Sunday. As the 2014 winner, Thompson finds herself in familiar territory in Houston, Texas.

The experienced champion played a bogey-free 66 to establish a competitive position at Memorial Park on Saturday.

It marks her first bogey-free major round in four years, following the last one in the 2022 Chevron tournament final. When asked about the course, the American champion pointed to her mentality.

"Yeah, I think overall just being patient. I still would like to be hitting it a little better off the tees," she responded. Her composure helped her to achieve 6-under par in the third round.

From the outset, Thompson realized the difference in conditions when navigating the tricky Memorial Park golf course. According to her, the conditions were not as windy as in the earlier rounds.

"I would say it was a little less windy today and as gusty, so maybe that's why some of the scores are a bit lower," Thompson said about the conditions at the park.

The American star credited her success to a disciplined mental approach throughout the afternoon. She remained calm despite the pressure, focusing on execution rather than the crowd's expectations as she moved up the standings.

Thompson Faces Steep Climb Toward the Lead

Despite playing an almost faultless game on Saturday, Thompson will now be tasked with climbing the daunting top 10 leaderboard, with World No. 2 Nelly Korda at the top. Korda has a 10-shot lead over Thompson heading into Sunday's play.

Right now, Thompson is tied for 10th place and will need to produce one of her best rounds ever to catch up with the leader. She is still a long shot for the title.

"I committed to a lot of my golf shots out there and made a few good putts coming in," she said in response to her performance. Now she needs to do the same thing again to move up the leaderboard on Sunday.

Memorial Park has certainly challenged Thompson, as she admitted that a few of the pins were not playing very well.

"But you know, it's a major championship, so that's how it should be," she said regarding the challenge.

But her bogey-free score is proof that her mental fortitude, assisted by favorable conditions, has led her to a bogey-free score at a major championship.

Can Lexi Thompson pull off a blinder and find her way to the top at the Chevron Championship? Let us know in the comments.
