LIV Golf is facing funding uncertainty as issues around its financial feasibility gain momentum, and now even the top brass is facing questions in the public eye. The breakaway league's top leadership recently refused to comment on the league's near future.
LIV Golf CEO Scott O'Neil appeared on CNBC's Halftime Report on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, and show host Scott Wapner asked a direct question. He inquired whether the next four scheduled LIV events would take place as planned. Instead of offering definitive reassurance, O'Neil offered an alternate statement, per an X post by NUCLR GOLF.
"What I can guarantee is a heck of a return if you come invest in this business."
An overwhelming sense of skepticism has been created over the course of the circuit's schedule due to the financial limitations placed by the Public Investment Fund, only until the conclusion of the 2026 season.
O'Neil's remarks followed a June 9 report from Front Office Sports.
The Saudi PIF funding for the breakaway league will last them only till August 2026. O'Neil is confident that their funding will last this season.
“I can say they’ve been terrific partners so far, and you have to take an incredible organization like PIF at their word—and they’ve been very public about funding us through the season," he added.
The four events left on this year's LIV calendar are:
LIV Golf United Kingdom: July 23–26, 2026
LIV Golf New York: August 6–9, 2026
LIV Golf Indianapolis: August 20–23, 2026
LIV Golf Michigan (Team Championship): August 27–30, 2026.
O'Neil's refusal to confirm the issue has left many in doubt. The fate of the entire professional sports entity is now hanging in the balance.
LIV Golf 2026 Schedule Chaos
This aversion at the executive level mirrors growing apprehensions surrounding funding constraints imposed by the Saudi PIF. Sources reveal that the league is dependent on monthly allowances that can be cut off at any time.
The PIF has poured more than $6 billion into operations since 2022; however, it announced in April that it would cover the expenses only for the current season. Thus, a forty-seven-day summer break has made cancellation fears more real.
High-level partners admitted that each remaining tournament is highly uncertain. An influential source has predicted, “I don’t think they’ll ever get to Michigan.”
The calendar features high-stakes stops in New York and Indianapolis. It all builds toward the $40 million Team Championship in Michigan.
“LIV Golf doesn’t know if or when the PIF will shut off the spigot,” an executive revealed.
Despite a reported revenue boost of $100 million as compared to last year, there is still uncertainty internally. Now the league has entered its summer recess surrounded by operational doubts.
Do you think LIV Golf will carry out the remaining 2026 events backed by the PIF? Let us know in the comments.
