The imminent launch of LIV Golf in New Orleans reportedly faces a challenge before the first tee-off in June. WDSU reports that the event may be delayed

The event is slated to be held in New Orleans and City Park. However, the report states that Louisiana will likely announce its postponement on Tuesday.

"Sources tell WDSU the state of Louisiana is postponing the event until LIV can restructure financially and find additional sources of funding," WDSU wrote in their report.

The postponement report comes despite LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil issuing a memo to staff claiming the season would continue “exactly as planned, uninterrupted and at full throttle."

According to The Times-Picayune/The New Orleans Advocate, the state had offered LIV Golf a $7.2 million incentive package last year. Of that, $5 million was the hosting fees, and $2 million went toward the course renovation.

Meanwhile, the WDSU also claimed that as per their sources, "Louisiana will be repaid $1 million, which the state had already paid to LIV ahead of the event."

LIV Golf has reportedly struggled to turn a profit

Whereas O'Neil insists that "our reality is defined by the work we do on the grass," the Financial Times reported that the PIF has poured over $5 billion into LIV Golf since 2022.

As per The Athletic's Chris Weatherspoon, the league has also continued to lose money. In his October 2025 report, the league lost $590.1 million in 2024.

That brought the Saudi PIF's total losses to $1.4 billion since LIV Golf kicked off its first season. Menwhile player salaries have crossed a billion dollars since the league's inception.

The Athletic reported that during that time, the Saudi-backed league paid $1.34 billion to players. Weatherspoon noted that the amount was nearly 11 times the revenue in the same period through 2024.
