LIV Golf's $40 Million Season Finale Faces Uncertain Future Amid Fresh Reports

LIV Golf is reportedly set to cancel its $40 million season-ending Team Championship, scheduled for late August in Michigan.
Golf insider account Flushing It, run by golf media personality Tom Hobbs, first reported the news on X. It says an official announcement on the cancellation is expected as soon as Wednesday.
The news comes just days after Martin Kaymer, captain of LIV's Cleeks GC team, told Today's Golfer that he thinks the season-ending finale's chances of survival are barely 'five per cent'.
Flushing It had also reported earlier that multiple contractors were told their travel and accommodation for the Michigan event had been cancelled outright.
"Money is also owed, with some saying they haven’t been paid in months. A LIV insider has even told me the Championship rings haven’t been paid for," Flushing It wrote on X.
Last week, Mobii Systems Group filed a breach-of-contract lawsuit against LIV Golf after the league abruptly cancelled its Any Shot Any Time feature on short notice.
This all sits on top of a much bigger money problem. In April, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund said it would stop funding LIV after the 2026 season. They have reportedly spent more than $5 billion since its inception back in 2022.
It left CEO Scott O'Neil hunting for replacement money. And back in June, he wouldn't even guarantee that LIV's final four events of the season would go ahead as scheduled.

Now, if Michigan is officially pulled, it will be the second LIV event canceled this season. LIV Golf Louisiana — the league's debut event in New Orleans, set for late June — was cancelled back in April and never rescheduled.
The money tells its own story too. This year's Team Championship purse was set at $40 million, down from $50 million in 2025. And the winning team's cut was also reduced from $14 million to $11.2 million.
Last year’s finale also featured concerts from Imagine Dragons and Swedish House Mafia. But no entertainment had been locked in for this year before the event was reportedly put on ice, Front Office Sports reported.
So, What's Left On LIV Golf's Schedule?
Without the Michigan event, the league's event total this season has been reduced to 12 from a planned 14. Only two events remain in LIV's 2026 schedule after that.
LIV Golf New York at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster, running August 6 through 9. Then comes LIV Golf Indianapolis at The Club at Chatham Hills from August 20 to 23. The Indianapolis event is now effectively becomes the league's season-ending event.
Both remaining tournaments carry the standard $30 million purse that LIV has paid at individual events all season.
