Brooke Henderson isn't just playing some of the best golf of her career right now — she's winning off the course, too.

Two days after pushing the Amundi Evian Championship to a playoff, Canada's winningest golfer said yes to a different kind of question entirely. Henderson is engaged to Ricky Castro, a minor-league pitcher in the Minnesota Twins organization.

The couple broke the news together on Instagram on Sunday, sharing a carousel of engagement photos with a caption:

"Engaged! 7•14•26. The beginning of forever ❤️."

“We are beyond excited and blessed to announce our engagement with one another! 🥰 God is so good for giving us each other!” they added.

Henderson turned pro in 2014, joined the LPGA Tour in 2015, and already owns 14 LPGA Tour wins and two major titles. She is the winningest golfer in Canadian history, with her biggest victories at the 2016 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship and the 2022 Evian Championship.

Castro, 26, is a right-handed pitcher from Naperville, Illinois, who played college baseball at Purdue before finishing his collegiate career at Tulane. He signed a minor-league deal with the Twins organization in 2024.

They met almost two years ago on a Sunday in southwest Florida. Henderson and her sister Brittany were having a practice round at a golf club near Naples, where Henderson owns a home.

Castro happened to be there with some teammates. A casual introduction turned into something more. And by March 2025, the two were officially dating. 

Henderson has spoken candidly about what makes the relationship work despite two demanding, travel-heavy careers pulling them in different directions much of the year.

“I feel like this life out here is pretty difficult because you travel so much," Henderson told Golfweek last summer.

"He’s traveling a lot, I’m traveling a lot, so he really understands the lifestyle and all that it takes to perform at your best. So he’s very understanding that way, which I think is really key in a relationship out here.”

As for whether Castro plays golf? Henderson laughed and told Golfweek they’re working on it.

The Timing Made It Even Sweeter

Henderson has been red-hot lately on the course. Two weeks before Evian, she tied for third at the KPMG Women's PGA Championship at Hazeltine.

Then at Evian, she produced one of the most dramatic final rounds of the year.

Down five strokes early to South Korea's Haeran Ryu, Henderson made an eagle on the par-5 7th and holed out for an ace on the par-3 8th. She tied for the lead outright with two holes to play, then rolled in an 8-foot eagle putt on the 72nd hole, her third eagle of the round, an LPGA record — to force a playoff.

Ryu ultimately won the playoff, but the runner-up finish was still Henderson's second top-three showing in a major in three weeks.

Henderson became an aunt for the first time in the middle of all this, too.

Henderson now heads into the AIG Women's Open, the year's final major at Royal Lytham & St Annes in England, starting on July 29 as an engaged woman for the first time in her career.
