Madelene Sagstrom is rewriting the script of what is possible on the LPGA Tour. The Swedish star is preparing for an extraordinary run at one of golf's most grueling major championships.
Golfweek's Beth Ann Nichols recently shared news regarding the golfer's upcoming schedule. The reporter confirmed that Sagstrom is playing the U.S. Women's Open at Riviera, nearly 7 months pregnant.
While practicing from the bunker, she smiled and confidently declared that she "feels great swinging a club." This announcement came just ahead of the highly anticipated opening rounds of the year's second major championship.
In addition to playing in Riviera, the golfer will be competing in two other events, including the celebrated KPMG Women's PGA Championship, adding a rigorous stretch to her final competitive trimester.
The 33-year-old golfer has made over $5 million in career earnings so far. She has two LPGA victories under her belt, the 2020 Gainbridge LPGA and 2025 T-Mobile Match Play, plus one runner-up spot from the 2021 Women's British Open.
She intends to continue competing at the highest level against the world's best players before shutting it down at the end of June to prepare for the birth of her first child.
Joining the Elite Ranks of LPGA Powerhouse Mothers
It is worth noting that Sagstrom is not the first player to compete in golf events while expecting a child. Before her, in 2022, major winner Brittany Lincicome played the ShopRite LPGA Classic tournament and placed sixth while seven months pregnant. Notably, in the same month, Lincicome took part in the 2022 KPMG Women's PGA Championship.
Moreover, Amy Olson, a tour veteran, managed to enter the 2023 U.S. Women's Open, which took place at Pebble Beach. Notably, Olson competed in the 36-hole qualifier when she was six months pregnant.
During the 2023 tournament week, she had already achieved a pregnancy stage of 30 weeks, thereby setting a benchmark for women like Sagstrom.
More recently, veteran Stacy Lewis chose the 2026 Chevron Championship for her final event as a full-time pro before retiring while pregnant with her second child.
The next tournament at Riviera promises to add another exciting page to the increasingly rich history of the mothers on tour. Fans of the sport look forward to the upcoming performance.
